Phenom II X3 720 BE taken to 4.3GHz on Air!
It seems someone managed to get a new Phenom X3 720 BE (unlocked) to hit 4.3GHz on nothing but air.
The person responsible (known as chew* on the Xtremesystems forum) managed to get to 4.2GHz with a 21x Multi and with 1.65v pumping into the CPU, a few posts later he gets a prime stable speed of 3.6GHz with 1.44v.
The big news is the 4.3GHz Air Suicide run he got followed by a whopping 5.0GHz (200x25) and a 4.7GHz SuperPi Stable OC (200x23 1.776v)shown in the YouTube video below.

Intel Discontinues Core 2 Extreme
It looks like Intel is giving a few of the LGA775 processors the axe. Both of the Core 2 Extreme quad core chips will be retired in June 2009.
Intel has already sent out the PDN (Product Discontinuance Notice) for both the QX9770 and QX9650 Extreme Edition chips. As a very large majority of the enthusiast community most likely already has their hands on these chips, they probably aren't moving too many of them through inventory anymore compared to their new offerings for the Core i7's. If you still want one you better grab it in the coming months before they go out of stock.

Lenovo may be first to use ION in Netbooks
Is it me or has the netbook become its own monster? When the concept was first pushed out it was all about small, light, portable internet and basic office/school tasks. Now everything has changed.
If rumors are to be believed Lenovo will be dropping the new HD capable nVidia ION under the hood of its new netbooks. The new Lenovos won't be your typical netbooks, they will run in 11.6 and 21.1 inch flavors.
This could be good for Lenovo if they can get it to market before everyone else and very good for nVidia. If the Lenovo netbooks are a success it means further adoption in the market and more revenue for nVidia.

The new gadget is called the iConn+ iBP1200 it looks like an oversized leather slide-in case for the iPhone but once you open the front flap you find out that it is much more.

Bluetooth Over Wi-Fi is Blazing Fast
Gizmodo has the details on perhaps what is one of the most promising showcases of upcoming technology from the 2009 MWC. Officially specified as "alternate MAC/PHY", you will now be able to have peer-to-peer connectivity coupled with Wi-Fi transfer speeds seamlessly and easily. Devices will shake hands via Bluetooth when paired up. Then, when any file transfer begins, communication will take place over the Wi-Fi hardware giving you a speedy wireless transfer. After the transfer is over, the Wi-Fi connection is dropped and communication is resumed via Bluetooth.
The Bluetooth Special Interest Group says that the specification will be official in April. Fortunately we might not have to wait long to be able to use it. Broadcom states that some of their current production chips already have the ability and only a software upgrade will be required to implement it.
