Zac O'Vadka | | Jun 16, 2009 1:36 AM CDT

GIGABYTE has announced that they are bringing one of their successful enthusiast features to everyone by including their DualBIOS technology on ALL of their motherboards.

Originally the feature was only included on their high-end motherboards and typically only enthusiasts ever had a chance to utilize the technology. Now those buying low-end and mid-range motherboards from GIGABYTE will get to enjoy the security that DualBIOS has to offer.

Rumours PC Partner to retool for Larrabee

Sylvie Barak | | Jun 15, 2009 4:12 PM CDT

There's nothing quite like a good dose of rumour and spec to kick start a week, and this week is no exception, with a little birdie telling us that PC partner - owner of both Sapphire and Zotac - may be mulling a retooling operation to accommodate Intel's Larrabee.

Protecting its upcoming product with the secrecy most countries reserve for their nuclear weaponry, Intel is maintaining almost absolute silence on Larrabee.

Even analysts are apparently being kept in the dark, with most tentatively putting their bets on Intel initially aiming its long anticipated offerings at high-end graphics for workstations and HPC, only then to filter down to PCs - starting with gaming machines.

Sapphire's new 4730 cards coming soon

Sylvie Barak | | Jun 15, 2009 3:05 PM CDT

We've heard word that Sapphire's new 4730 cards will be hitting European shelves on Tuesday 23rd June, with worldwide availability following shortly thereafter.

Given that these 4770 fall-out parts will only be made available to AMD's 'special friends' -Sapphire and Powercolor - sales are expected to be massive, especially at a price of €79 including vat.

The product is only JUST coming through to the channel, so no pics yet, but we've sneakily managed to get hold of a snap of Neil Spicer, Sapphire's Head of Sales for Northern Europe.

Kingston Launches First 128GB USB Flash Drive

Kingston has done something pretty impressive. They have launched the first ever 128GB USB flash drive. This impressive new drive is part of the DT200 family and features a capless design, ReadyBoot compatibility, Password Traveler software for Windows, and a $546 price tag.

If that high of a price puts you off your lunch you can still get the DT200 in 32 and 64GB flavors and not miss your rent. Due to its high manufacture cost the 128GB DT200 will be a made to order product.

If you need the biggest USB key out this might be your thing.

Asus shows Moblin on an Eee Keyboard

Sean Kalinich | Peripherals | Jun 15, 2009 12:23 PM CDT

Intel's Moblin has been making the rounds this year (I had it installed in a Virtual Machine for a month) it even managed to pop up on an Asus Eee Keyboard at Computex.

Luckily the gang at netbooks.de were ready with a video camera and caught the whole thing.

Although the Eee Keyboard in the shot is not a production system (after all Moblin is still in Beta Stage) it is very interesting to see on the Eee Keyboard. I have a feeling that once it is launched we may see a lot more of Intel's Moblin.

Is Google Scared of Bing?

Sean Kalinich | | Jun 15, 2009 9:17 AM CDT

Microsoft has been trying very hard to upgrade its outdated search engine. They tried MS search, Live, and now might have finally done something right. They launched Bing (tell me you do not hear Janice from Friends every time you say that ;)).

But according to Microsoft Bing is not just a search engine; it is decision engine. This little difference, even if semantic, might have Google a little bit afraid.

According to a New York Post article Google is scared of Bing and working hard to put in some "urgent updates" to compete with Bing.

Intel Pinetrail to have Windows 7 support

Sean Kalinich | Software & Apps | Jun 15, 2009 8:48 AM CDT

There have been some complaints that Microsoft was not going to fully support netnooks with Windows 7. However this does not seem to be the case as we find that Intel's next gen Pinetrail Atom will be supported by Windows 7.

Support will come in the form of the two simplest flavors of Windows 7 (home basic and starter). However, I can say from personal experience that the current Atom (N270) with Intel's chipset will run Windows 7 Ultimate (RC1 Build 7100) as I have it running on an MSI Wind U100. I did have to bump up the RAM to 2GB but I would have done that anyway.

So netbook users do not fear, Windows 7 will run on your favorite new toy. You just won't be able to buy a netbook with Windows 7 Ultimate preinstalled.

China's new censorship software full of holes

Sean Kalinich | Software & Apps | Jun 12, 2009 2:40 PM CDT

You have to hate it when someone pulls off a huge techno-judo move and uses your own security against you.

Well that is what could happen in China according to security researchers. It would seem that there are large holes in the censorship software they want to shovel onto every computer down there.

This would make it open to being used as a large botnet. The new software called "Green Dam" is so open that any malformed website can exploit it.
