Intel Plans New SSDs Much Sooner Than Expected

Game Devs chose to wait for 3G S gaming

Sean Kalinich | | Jun 29, 2009 12:10 PM CDT

We have all read the reviews of the 3G S, we have all heard about its better graphics processing ability and OpenGL ES 2.0 support. We all know that there is increased security.

So with everything that we are hearing, why don't we see more iPhone 3G S specific games and applications? Well, the reason is kind of simple. Despite the popularity of the iPhone 3G S and the extra power, game developers do not feel it is worth it to make the move in that direction.

As it stands right now, they feel that developing for the whole family or for the 3G is the smarter choice.

Devteam delays release of 3G S jailbreak

Sean Kalinich | | Jun 29, 2009 8:55 AM CDT

In the world of jailbreaking there is bad news. After announcing that a jailbreak for the 3G S was imminent, the Devteam retracted and are now saying they are not going to release a new version of redsn0w.

The reason behind this decision is, according to a post on the Devteam blog, due to the limited number of 3G S iPhone's in the wild. But they also say that they are waiting for Firmware 3.0.1 to be released. So really I am not sure why they are really delaying the release.

Apple has not made any statements about the release of a new firmware for the iPhonso we only have the Devteams word that a new version is being released very soon. Normally the rumors about a new firmware would pop up all over the net, but we only have this one source.

Foxconn: "We're not quitting the channel business"

Cameron Wilmot | Business, Financial & Legal | Jun 29, 2009 8:35 AM CDT

During our visit to the Foxconn headquarters in Taipei today, besides looking at new products which the Taiwanese company has been busy developing in recent times, we had to ask a couple hard hitting questions.

We spoke with Andrew D. Ouyang and Sidney Tsai from the channel sales team - that's the folk who are responsible for marketing and selling its range of retail motherboards and othe products.

We asked Foxconn about the rumors floating around that Foxconn is going to quit the channel business of Foxconn branded and marketed products - and the question wasn't met with surprise. The answer we got that was that Foxconn are not quitting the channel business and that "we're still here", from Sidney Tsai.

Cameron Wilmot | Motherboards | Jun 29, 2009 8:13 AM CDT

Today we visited the Foxconn Channel office in Taipei and got a look at its upcoming range of motherboards to be released in the coming future. We got a look at what was being shown behind closed doors during Computex. You've already seen the Foxconn Cinema 785G board, now we get a look at a couple upcoming Intel boards.

Zach Ko, Quantum Force & Digital Life motherboard product manager, gave us an early look at its upcoming Quantum Force Socket 1156 boards based around Intel's P55 Express chipset for the upcoming range of Core i5 mid-range processors.

The Inferno Katana is the big daddy and comes loaded with all the features. There is a slightly cut-down version called the Inferno Katana GTI. The main difference being that the GTI only has eight CPU power phases and the Inferno Katana has 12. Each board has two dedicated power phases for the dual channel DDR3 memory. Both boards support NVIDIA SLI and ATI CrossfireX.

Foxconn shows us its Cinema AMD 785G mobo

Cameron Wilmot | Motherboards | Jun 29, 2009 7:17 AM CDT

Today we visited the Foxconn Channel office in Taipei and got a look at its upcoming range of motherboards to be released in the coming future.

First up Zach Ko, Quantum Force & Digital Life motherboard product manager, gave us an early look at its Cinema motherboard. It is part of the popular Digital Life line and is based on the upcoming AMD 785G chipset, which includes the DX10.1 ATI Radeon HD 4200 GPU. Overclocking is one of the features which hasn't been forgotten on this small board and there is an option in the BIOS to increase the graphics core up to 1100MHz - and that enables it to hit a 3DMark06 score of around 2700 3DMarks. On the Deluxe version of the board, 128MB DDR3 1333MHz onboard SidePort memory is included for an extra performance boost.

It's capable of supporting both AM2+ and AM3 based AMD processors and comes with Dual Channel DDR2 667/800/1066 support. There are a total of five CPU power phases to keep things stable and 100% solid capacitors are used as well as ferrite choke power delivery for basic overclocking and increased reliability.

Apple Confirms banning iPhone App

Sean Kalinich | Mobile Devices, Tablets & Phones | Jun 26, 2009 12:31 PM CDT

Yesterday we told you that the first iPhone app with real nudity had been both published and then banned. Many people were covering the launch as it appeared to be a reversal of Apple's Morality Police tactics.

However as people checked the developer's website and saw a message about server usage, there were more than a few retractions.

We did not think that was the case. After all why would Apple change now.

Kayak Angry at MS over Bing

Sean Kalinich | | Jun 26, 2009 12:05 PM CDT

Kayak, a travel search engine has sent a nasty letter to Microsoft over the new Travel Search features of Bing.

It seems that Kayak feels the new MS Decision engine looks too much like their own. If you look at the two side by side they do look very similar and have the same feel.

The problem for Kayak is that in the world of travel search most companies follow the exact same layout. After all they are all trying to give the same information (often pulled from the exact same sources.).
