New mobile OS for enterprise handheld devices coming from Microsoft

A new OS for enterprise handheld devices is coming later this year from Microsoft as they attempt so simplify the upgrade cycle. The Windows Embedded OS, based on Windows Mobile technology 6.5, will provide backwards compatibility and a clear upgrade path to Windows Embedded Handheld which is projected to come out in 2011 and be based on Windows Embedded Compact 7 OS, according to David Kelley, product unit manager for Windows Embedded at Microsoft.

Tablets will outsell desktops by 2013 according to Forrester

Some interesting figures came out of the Untethered Conference in New York City today, with Sarah Rotman Epps of Forrester Research providing projections that Tablets will outsell netbooks by 2012 and desktop computers by 2013. Tablets have only begun to surface with the iPad, but with the strong popularity of the Apple tablet along with the plethora of products on the horizon tablets look to be the wave of the future.

Samsung Captivate coming to AT&T in the coming months

Quite a few people believe that with AT&T being the exclusive iPhone carrier in the U.S. that there's no room in their lineup for a high end Android phone to step on the almighty Apple's toes. That rumor has been put to rest with the announcement of the Samsung Captivate, a phone that was originally slated for release by T-Mobile. Described by AT&T as a "Galaxy S smartphone," the device is pretty much a clone of the European Galaxy S with its 4-inch Super AMOLED display, Android 2.1, 7.2Mbps HSPA, and 1GHz Hummingbird processor.

512mb of RAM confirmed in the iPhone 4

With multitasking being one of the big selling points of the new iPhone 4, one of the big issues with this feature would be whether there's enough memory under the hood to make the experience a smooth one instead of a slideshow and waiting game. Apple isn't usually very forthcoming about the specs of their devices though, but Macrumors has verified that the iPhone 4 will indeed ship with 512mb of onboard RAM, which is double what the iPhone 3GS and even the iPad have.

Shuttle unveils J3 5800G SFF gaming PC at E3

Shuttle was on hand at E3 in LA this year and has unveiled its latest SFF gaming PC. It's nice to see some announcements coming from the show that aren't console related for a change.


The new SFF PC is called the XPC J3 5800G and it runs Windows 7. There are many options for the machine with CPUs in the Core i7 line up to the extreme edition. The machine can have up to 16GB of RAM and can be fitted with an optional GTX 480 video card.
