RumorTT: Apple iPad mini, looking to sport 7-inch display that Apple are currently testing

Anthony Garreffa | Mobile Devices, Tablets & Phones | Oct 19, 2011 at 11:50 pm CDT

Reports coming out of the United Daily News believe that Samsung and AU Optronics have sent 7.85-inch screen samples to Apple for consideration in future products, the rumored iPad mini. Rumors of a smaller iPad have made their way around the Internet a few times now, and are once again doing so. Steve Jobs was against the idea of a 7-inch tablet, being quoted in an earnings call last year that Apple won't make a 7-inch tablet because the screen is too small to express the software.

RumorTT: Apple iPad mini, looking to sport 7-inch display that Apple are currently testing | TweakTown.com

Jobs believed that developers wouldn't be happy writing app code to accommodate varying screen sizes in the same product line (what about consumers?). Now that new CEO Tim Cook is directing the Apple ship, this could change. An iPad mini would be even more portable than the current offerings as well as costing just a portion of the price, allowing Apple to gain more market share at an even lower price point.

It would also be great competition for Amazon's 7-inch Kindle Fire, as well as the varying GALAXY Tab devices from super-competitor and main threat, Samsung. Apple is expected to unveil the iPad 3 sometime in early 2012 based on the 9.7-inch display. Rumors have again fueled on the iPad 3, with most (including myself) expected it to sport a resolution of 2044x1536.

Uncharted 3's launch trailer, looking to be a GOTY title

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Oct 19, 2011 at 10:36 pm CDT

Fan or not of Uncharted 3, it looks bloody impressive. I loved the first two games and I fondly remember two Christmas's ago sitting there for an entire day bashing through the Uncharted 2, finishing it over the Christmas break. It was such an amazing game. It's almost like playing a movie, but better than most actual Hollywood movies. Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception continues Nathan Drake's story and without spoiling the game, if you haven't played the previous two, I highly suggest you do.

This is my most anticipated console game of the year, and the trailer really pumps me up for the full thing. As you can see in the above trailer (don't read any further for spoilers), it shines in its character development, action set pieces, graphics, and charisma. Uncharted 3 is less than two weeks away, arriving on the PlayStation 3 on November 1.

Battlefield 3 on the Xbox 360 is 'Standard Def' without High-Res texture installation

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Oct 19, 2011 at 9:38 pm CDT

Executive Producer at DICE, Patrick Bach, has said that the Xbox 360 version of Battlefield 3 is running the game without the high-resolution texture pack (which is found on the second disc) by default, and is the "standard def" version of the game. What the texture pack does, is bring the Xbox 360 version up to the same standards of that found on the PS3 and PC. Bach elaborates:

So what it does is it gives you the same abilities, kind of, as the PC and PS3. You can actually stream information from the hard drive. That's new for Xbox 360, but it's not a new idea for the gaming industry as a whole. No one has really tried to do it properly, so us doing it will create question marks.

eBay's Q3 revenues are up 32%, meets analysts expectations

Anthony Garreffa | Business, Financial & Legal | Oct 19, 2011 at 8:51 pm CDT

eBay have met expectations of analysts in Q3 with revenues increasing 32-percent to $3 billion compared to the same period last year. eBay's net income sat at $490.5 million, or 37 cents per share. Non-GAAP revenues, which eliminates the impact of several recent multi-million dollar acquisitions, totaled $682.2 million, or 48 cents per share, meeting analyst expectations perfectly.

Revenues estimates were high, with them ranging from $2.25 billion to $2.9 billion which is according to a poll of analysts by Thomson Reuters. Just before the earnings were released, eBay's stock was down 80 cents, or 2.4-percent to close at $33.07, and in after hours, the stock continued the downward motion dropping another 4.3-percent. Reasoning behind this isn't 100-percent, but it could be its revenue outlook for Q4, which should be its busiest because of the holidays.

Dropbox rejected Steve Jobs/Apple's acquisition offer of $250 million

Anthony Garreffa | Business, Financial & Legal | Oct 19, 2011 at 7:42 pm CDT

Dropbox back in 2009, reportedly turned down a nine-digit, rumored to be $250 million, from Steve Jobs and Apple. Back in 2009, Dropbox was only two years old, but Steve Jobs could see the use in Dropbox before there was iCloud. Steve Jobs led the first and only meeting with the Dropbox founders, Arash Ferdowsi and Drew Houston, telling them they should sell to Apple because Apple would crush their company with a competing product.

That recently product is the recently launched iCloud service... the following quote is from the Forbes article (and cover story) written by Victoria Barrett:

In December 2009 Jobs beckoned Houston (pronounced like the New York City street, not the Texas city) and his partner, Arash Ferdowsi, for a meeting at his Cupertino office. "I mean, Steve friggin' Jobs," remembers Houston, now 28. "How do you even prepare for that?" When Houston whipped out his laptop for a demo, Jobs, in his signature jeans and black turtleneck, coolly waved him away: "I know what you do."

New Battlefield 3 multiplayer trailer - tonnes of new footage, 'splosions, and pant-moving action

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Oct 19, 2011 at 7:16 pm CDT

Oh my god. First up, there's not even a damn week until the beast itself, Battlefield 3, is released and secondly, EA and DICE have just released another change-your-underwear worthy trailer that shows off footage from all nine of the multiplayer maps in Battlefield 3, including Back to Karkand. The new footage shows off some totally insane action, and makes me (and I'm sure, you) want it just that bit more.

I still can't believe were within a week of release... but here we are. I definitely suggest checking out the above trailer: it really is just pure 1min 42sec of awesomeness. I do apologise for the short news post, but theres not much more I can say but watch this video, now!
