LaCie's FastKey USB 3.0 flash drives give you SSD speeds on the go

By: Don Lynn | More News: Storage | Posted: Nov 19, 2010 5:29 am

An SSD for your pocket? LaCie is looking to give you just that. The company has announced their newest USB 3.0 compatible FastKey flash drives that take the power of an SSD and shrink it down to pocket size.

news/1/7/17626_001.jpg

Boasting up to 260MB/sec speeds, AES 256-bit encryption for security, and a slick looking aluminum exterior, the FastKey comes in 30GB, 60GB, and 120GB flavors. As you would expect with tech like this, it's gonna cost you; $149.99, $249.99, and $474.99 respectively. As someone who tends to lose flash drives like some people lose socks in the dryer, people like me had better equip theirs with a GPS tracking device after shelling out this kind of cash.

Qualcomm teases info about the new generation of Snapdragon

By: Don Lynn | More News: Mobile Devices | Posted: Nov 19, 2010 5:13 am

Qualcomm's Snapdragon processors are still one of the top end pieces you can have in a mobile device, but as the new year approaches it's time to move on to bigger and better things. Qualcomm has started teasing the public about the next generation of the Snapdragon platform, and if their numbers are to be believed it's definitely something to look forward to.

news/1/7/17625_001.jpg

Details from Qualcomm on their next project are pretty sexy: 28nm chips, dual core processors with a 5x improvement in speed, and a 75% decrease in power consumption. The new MSM8960 "System on a Chip" would also use the Adreno 3xx GPU which would offer a 4x improvement in 3D graphics power. This would give you a mobile device with the gaming power of a PS3 or Xbox 360 according to their illustrations. It will probably be 2012 before we see these in stores, but it's definitely something to look forward to.

Paypal looking to bring their services to internet connected TVs

By: Don Lynn | More News: HT & Movies | Posted: Nov 19, 2010 4:52 am

Internet connected TVs are becoming a pretty big deal with all of the services like Netflix and Google TV hitting living rooms worldwide. Paypal is looking to capitalize on this by working with Canoe Ventures, Catalina Marketing, Delivery Agent, FouthWall Media and icueTV to develop a Television commerce (T-commerce) solution for internet connected TVs.

news/1/7/17624_002.jpg

The premise outlined by Osama Bedler, Paypal's VP of platform for mobile and new ventures, is fairly simple: see it on TV, perform a couple clicks with your remote, and the purchase is done via your Paypal account. This will basically turn Paypal into a digital wallet you can access anywhere you can get internet connectivity. It's a great idea, but I can see a lot of people getting into some financial trouble during late night infomercial watching. Sales of Slap Chops and Mighty Putty will go through the roof!

Valve delays the release of Portal 2, sprinkles some humor on it

By: Anthony Garreffa | More News: Gaming | Posted: Nov 19, 2010 2:10 am

I'm not really meant to post gaming news, but games like Deus Ex and Portal 2 are too big to not post... so I hope you enjoy reading it here at TweakTown! Valve have delayed the hotly anticipated physics nut busting Portal 2 by 4 months, but... they've spun it into something funny.

news/1/7/17623_267.jpg

The news was from a press release titled "VALVE ANNOUNCES MAKING GAMES IS HARD". Now, obviously they've hit a brick wall and can't get it out any quicker, and because Portal guns don't exist in real life (yet) they can't just shoot their way out of this one.

Thought your 3DMark score was good enough? Well, don't read on further dear reader.

ASUS are proud to announce a new world record in Futuremark's 3DMark Vantage. Featuring ASUS' innovative hardware designs and the skill of top overclocker NickShih, the combination of the ROG Rampage III Extreme motherboard, Intel's Flagship 980X processor and Voltage Tweaked GTX580 in SLI broke the 70K barrier with a score of 71,167**. This world record continues to show why ASUS is the 1 choice for overclockers and gamers those looking for the absolute best in performance.

Using things found around the house (may or may not be true) he overclocked the ASUS GTX580's from their stock 782MHz clock speeds to a pretty insane 1099MHz using LN2 (the stuff that ripped the T1000 into little pieces in Terminator 2).

Apple tease the world with the release of iOS 4.2.1 GM build

By: Anthony Garreffa | More News: Mobile Devices | Posted: Nov 19, 2010 12:03 am

When I heard the release of iOS 4.2 was delayed - both my iPad and I cried in pain.

news/1/7/17620_264.jpg

But, I don't know why - I'm patient with Apple, I'm not patient with anything else... NVIDIA and AMD can't release GPU's fast enough, games can't come out fast enough - but Apple products, the reality-distortion field really does affect me.

Samson unveils new Expedition 40i Portable PA system with iPod dock

By: Shane McGlaun | More News: Audio, Sound & Speakers | Posted: Nov 18, 2010 8:06 pm

I have a few friends that always want to go somewhere and sing karaoke. One of my hard and fast rules of life is that I don't dance and I don't sing in public. I will humiliate myself with some Rock Band at my house, but singing in front of drunken people at the local Mexican food restaurant isn't my idea of fun. If you like to sing karaoke and want a portable system that will let you belt out your favorite songs and can be used for meetings and more Samson has a new product for you.

news/1/7/17615_1.jpg

The new product is called the Expedition 40iw Portable Pa system. It has an integrated iPod dock and a wireless microphone. This is the first system to feature a wireless mic with an integrated rechargeable battery from Samson. The system can be used for karaoke, meetings, pool parties or any other task where you need to be heard by a group.
