GeCube Radeon X800GTO - Another new VPU from ATI - Benchmarks - Half Life 2

The folks out at ATI's headquarters in Canada have been busy little beavers and things aren't set to stop anytime soon. Only recently we saw the release of the Radeon X800GT which goes up against the GeForce 6600GT and today ATI's are releasing another new PCI Express VPU called Radeon X800GTO which is designed to go up against the GeForce 6800 standard, among others. Read on as we take a close look at GeCube's version of the X800GTO which is pitted against the X800GT.

By taking the suspense, challenge and visceral charge of the original, and adding startling new realism and responsiveness, Half-Life 2 opens the door to a world where the player's presence affects everything around him, from the physical environment to the behaviors even the emotions of both friends and enemies.

We benchmark Half Life 2 with our own custom timedemos as to avoid possible driver optimizations using the "record demo_name" command and loading the timedemo with the "timedemo demo_name" command - For a full list of the commands, click here.

Moving to the more important real world tests, we can see that at the lower resolution there is quite a larger difference but at the higher resolution the X800GTO is 100% quicker with the GTO offering a playable frame rate while the GT doesn't.
