GeCube Radeon X800GTO - Another new VPU from ATI - Benchmarks - Graphics Card Overclocking

The folks out at ATI's headquarters in Canada have been busy little beavers and things aren't set to stop anytime soon. Only recently we saw the release of the Radeon X800GT which goes up against the GeForce 6600GT and today ATI's are releasing another new PCI Express VPU called Radeon X800GTO which is designed to go up against the GeForce 6800 standard, among others. Read on as we take a close look at GeCube's version of the X800GTO which is pitted against the X800GT.

Graphics Card Overclocking

Thanks to motherboard and VGA manufactures, overclocking has become such an effortless task, giving literally anyone the chance to overclock their components with very little risk.

When it comes to overclocking graphics card we use and recommend two program - for ATI cards you can't go past ATI Tool and if you're on the other side of the fence and using an nVidia card the Coolbits 2 registry hack is it. Both programs offer an Auto Overclock feature which is what we use.

The GeCube X800GTO was increased from 475MHz on the core to 531Mz and 500MHz on the memory to 538MHz which was using nothing more then the Uni Wise cooling solution from GeCube.

The increase in core and memory speed sees almost a 10% increase in performance in 3DMark05.

The overclock takes us to an extremely nice average of over 100FPS or roughly a 6% increase from standard clock speeds.

At the lower resolution we see nothing but a CPU bottleneck and this can be confirmed with the increase in performance we got when overclocking only the processor, on the previous page.
