Introduction

Wireless networking since its beginning has been the ultimate dream for both Intel (who started the 802.11x standards as well as supporting the latest incarnates) to the end users. After all, who wants to have multiple computers on the network backbone with hundreds of CAT5 wires, ports and plugs around the home/office? Nobody. 802.11g made this more of a reality with speeds breaking the 54mbps barrier, and with the 802.16 standards now under review with speeds beyond 100mbps across the air, Wireless Networking has never looked so good.

Many companies have started to cash in on the Wireless-G (the nickname of the 802.11g standard) like Gigabyte, MSI and now ASUS. ASUS, more known for its hardware PC peripherals than networking products, have put some time and effort into the R&D of its Wireless products and have come up with a rather innovative idea that bridges two areas of Wireless Networking.

Today we take a look at the ASUS WL-HDD 2.5 inch unit that bridges everything a network should have – accessibility (Wireless AP), reliability and storage options (NAS). Interested? Read on and learn more about this interesting network device.
