TweakTown Rating: 8.5%Manufacturer: GeCube

Test System Setup

Processor(s): Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz (540) Prescott LGA775

Motherboard(s): ABIT AA8XE Fatality (Supplied by ABIT)

Memory: 2 X 512MB Kingston DDR2 (Supplied by Kingston)

Hard Disk(s): Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10,000 RPM SATA (Supplied by Western Digital)

Operating System: Windows XP Professional SP1

Drivers: ATI Catalyst 5.1 and DX9c

As we mentioned in the introduction we will be having a look at both the X800XL and X850XT but also throwing in the 6600GT (ASUS retail version) and 6800 Ultra (nVidia reference version) to give you a bit of an idea on where these cards stand in the market.

We will also be running all our normal synthetic and real world benchmarks and should get a good idea on both cards and if they suit your needs as a gamer.

3DMark2001 SE is a part of the popular 3DMark series. By combining DirectX 8.1 support with completely new graphics (including the GeForce4), it continues to provide benchmark results that empower you to make informed hardware assessments.

We can see that at the lower resolution the X800XL is able to even get ahead of the more expensive 6800 Ultra while at the higher resolution it only falling slightly behind. The X850XT is well and truly ahead at both resolutions.
