The Bottom Line
In September 2014, we had both the Samsung EVO and Samsung PRO secure digital solutions in the lab. While both of these solutions were quite good, today we check out the latest in the EVO line-up with Samsung launching the EVO+.
The EVO+ is the latest mainstream microSDXC solution to come from Samsung. This solution is available in capacities ranging from 32GB to 128GB including a 64GB model that we have in house. Marketing numbers for this solution come in at 80 MB/s read followed by 20 MB/s write, making this solution ideal for HD video recording and Hi-Res photography. The EVO+ carries both the Speed Class 10 and UHS I designations.
MSRP of the Samsung EVO+ in the 64GB capacity is listed at $34.99 with a ten-year warranty.
Packaging for the EVO+ gives a peak of the card and adapter at the bottom, marketing performance is listed below, along with the speed class 10 and UHS I logos.
The EVO+ is packaged in bubble plastic next to the microSD to SD adapter.
Opening up the packaging, we find the EVO+ carrying on the same design as the EVO thought with a richer tone of orange as the main color. The adapter seen to the right is similar to previous solution seen packaged with Samsung products.
The Samsung EVO+ memory card is factory formatted with the exFAT file system. Useable capacity after formatting stands at 59.5GB.
Starting with some testing, the EVO+ came in slightly above its read marketing numbers at 94.4 MB/s, while write speeds too beat out marketing at 24 MB/s.
Price/Performance put the EVO+ in the second spot, thanks to its aggressive MSRP.
The Samsung EVO+ with its excellent entry MSRP of just $34.99 is solid solution for today's tablet, smartphones and point and shoot cameras. Adding to the overall package, Samsung has issued a ten-year warranty to the EVO+. Quality of the micro SD card is on par with some of the higher-end solutions we have seen and features a sealed PCB making it water, dust and shockproof.
Performance of this solution was able to exceed marketing specifications with write performance coming in at 24MB/s, followed up by read at 94 MB/s. Price/Performance landed the EVO+ in the second spot trailing just behind the PRO+, which we will be looking at in another review soon.
Overall, the Samsung EVO+ is perfect for mainstream uses where extreme write speed isn't needed, but capacity is of more importance.

The Bottom Line: With its strong price point, the Samsung EVO+ is one of the best values as a microSD storage solution. Adding to this the read performance is up there with some of the best cards on the market and warranty is second to none.
