Vantec NexStar 2 External HDD Enclosure Review

Not too long ago we took a look at the original NexStar HDD Enclosure. While it had a few quirks, it did manage to provide a workable means of using that old hard drive in an external manner and even did well as far as data transfer rates go. We'll take a look at the performance of the new model, but we'll also look hard to see if the problems of the past have been addressed in the present!

Introduction

 

When you hear the name Vantec, the first thing that probably comes to mind is cooling and power supplies. While they do have a decent product line in both of these categories, they have also branched out in the not too distant past to cover a whole range of gadgetry to handle many different functions in your daily computing life.

 

Not too long ago we took a look at the original NexStar HDD Enclosure. While it had a few quirks, it did manage to provide a workable means of using that old hard drive in an external manner and even did well as far as data transfer rates go. But those quirks turned off some of the user base that Vantec was aiming at, so along comes the v2.0, so to speak.

 

We'll take a look at the performance of the new model, but we'll also look hard to see if the problems of the past have been addressed in the present!
