Introduction

When it comes to building your own enthusiast system, the processor has to be considered one of the most vital components. Sure there are numerous other parts and pieces that greatly affect the overall performance, but for sheer speed and power the processor is what it all boils down to.

If you ask any group of gamers and enthusiasts what processor is the so-called “cream of the crop”, you will more than likely have two separate groups on your hands with one voting for Intel and the other voting AMD. While we’re not here today to discuss this topic, we are here to try to figure out if a certain processor is worthy of the incredibly high price tag.

The processor in question is none other than the AMD Athlon 64 FX-53 which is clocked at 2.4GHz. Being an AMD man for several years now, many folks have wondered what kind of performance you can really expect when upgrading to this pricey monster. We’re here to try to help answer your questions and figure out if this new powerhouse has what it takes to make the avid gamer shell out nearly US$800 for a single processor!
