TTIC NPH-201 Athlon XP Heatsink Review - Conclusion

TTIC is an upcoming company in the PC enthusiast cooling market. Today we are taking a look at their NPH-201 heatsink for the AMD Athlon XP processor. It offers a new technology called "Heat Column" which provides adequate cooling with low noise output with just a 70mm fan.

Conclusion

If you're like me, you've known that quality air cooling just has to make a lot of noise. It is a simple fact of life that we have all lived with, but this doesn't have to be the case anymore. This new Heat Column technology has the potential to change our outlook with regards to cooling. Who knows, it may be time to re-think the way we cool our processors.

Some may not like the tall stature of this particular heatsink, but I found it to be no more cumbersome than others that are currently available. I did, however, like the fact that a little thought was placed into the fan selection. The choices of good 70mm fans are very limited, but there are almost an endless number of 80mm fans to choose from. The choice of single or dual fans is also a nice touch. If noise doesn't bother you, then set this thing up to sound like a jet; and get some excellent cooling for the effort!

As far as price, the availability is limited right now, but I really don't think this will be true in the near future if the performance levels are looked at by the enthusiast community. I was able to find this cooler at a price of 54.99 Euro from a French site. This works out to be roughly US$66.45, but it is hard to say right now if this will be an accurate price for the cooler when it becomes available through US sources. Even so, it may be a bit pricey for the budget conscious among us.

Bottom line... If you have always thought that good air cooling equates to a lot of noise, then it may be time to think again. The TTIC NPH-201 provides very acceptable cooling at noise levels that are well below the threshold we are usually accustomed to. Add to this the ability to customize the fan layout for even better cooling and you have an excellent choice for either the user looking for performance or quiet computing.
