Soltek SL-87CW-EL Motherboard - Canterwood on a budget - Conclusion

By: Cameron Johnson | Editorials in Motherboards | Posted: Dec 5, 2003 5:00 am
TweakTown Rating: 7.0%Manufacturer: Soltek

Overall, Soltek has done a very good job to bring Canterwood to the value market. However, it does have some performance issues compared to other Canterwood motherboards and even some Springdale motherboards. Looking at getting a Springdale motherboard with the extra features is a much wiser option.

While being budget it does give some reasonably good features, but one point that disappointed us was the overclocking. Despite all out efforts, we only got a maximum of 234MHz FSB out of the system. No matter what was changed out, nothing would allow us to pass 234MHz.

In all this motherboard is really only for those of you who want a Canterwood name without a Canterwood Price.

- Pros

Parallel ATA RAID

Attractive purple PCB

- Cons

Slower than most Canterwood and Springdale motherboards

Poor Overclocking

Rating - 7 out of 10
