ABIT IC7 MAX3 – Taking Canterwood to the MAX

Author: Shane Baxtor SUMMARY: AMD Athlon 64 has taken most of the spotlight over the past month but we shouldn't forget about Intel Pentium 4. One such motherboard to support it is ABIT's IC7 MAX3, which takes the Canterwood chipset to the MAX.

Introduction

ABIT are very well known in the enthusiast community for producing some of the most hardcore, feature-packed motherboards on the market. With the release of the Canterwood and Springdale chipset, ABIT came out in force with their IS7 and IC7 (-G) a while back. While both motherboards were very good, they were missing some things that the hardcore overclocker craved.

One of the most notable things that most overclockers found was the VDIMM limit of 2.8V was just not enough. When it comes to some of the latest PC4000 memory, giving these things a bit more voltage will give amazing speeds. Another particular problem with the previous motherboards was the horrible 255 FSB issue, fortunately it wasn’t a hardware issue and a BIOS came out soon after receiving the new IC7-MAX3 in our test labs.

With the memory fixed up and a few new little bits and pieces added to the mix, let’s see what ABIT can do when they strap their famous OTES to one of the best motherboards on the market right now – the IC7 MAX3.
