Survival of the Fittest - Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz vs. AMD Athlon XP 3200+ - Benchmarks - Direct3D

Later on today Intel will release its newest and fastest desktop processor yet - the Pentium 4 at 3.2GHz on an 800MHz quad-pumped FSB. It is a 200MHz jump over their previous processor and 1GHz faster than AMD's fastest desktop processor. Today Cameron "Sov" Johnson gives us the dirt on Intel's fastest processor and puts it head to head with AMD's Athlon XP 3200+ for the survival of the fittest under our intense benchmarking suite.

Real World Direct3D

Comanche 4

Comanche 4 is a helicopter simulation using the DirectX 8.1 graphics interface. It is used to test the memory and 3D sub systems of a motherboard and video processor. Any weaknesses will show up on this baby.

Comanche 4 relies more on DirectX 8 technologies thus both Athlon XP and Pentium 4 are pretty well matched in this aspect.

Aquanox

Aquanox is the latest instalment of our benchmark software. This game is based heavily on DirectX 8 and 8.1 advancements and is designed to stress video cards to their ultimate limit, in all the best D3D benchmark to date.

Aquanox pulls all the stops on DirextX 8.1 thus the Pentium 4 handles itself much better.

UT 2003

Unreal Tournament 2003 continues the success that Unreal Tournament generated as an online game and benchmark. UT2003 pulls all of its weight on to the 3D and Memory subsystems, pushing graphics reality to the maximum is its game, and you need some serious power to pull this one off

In the final test of the day Intel takes home the win.
