Hercules 3D Prophet Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB Review - Benchmarks - OpenGL

Since ATI's Radeon 9700 Pro started appearing on shop shelves nVidia have had to keep pace with their GeForce FX series. Recently ATI launched the Radeon 9800 Pro which is essentially a Radeon 9700 Pro with higher clock speeds to keep competitive against nVidia. Today Shawn "Toxic" Baker takes a look at the funky-looking Hercules 3D Prophet Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB video card that costs $660 US which certainly does not make it a product for the faint of heart.

Quake 3 - 1024 X 768 @ 32Bit

Quake III Arena is a real-world OpenGL benchmark that we have been using here at TweakTown for quite a while now because it has proven itself to be one of the best gaming benchmarks around to compare a wide range of different products. Quake III is getting very old, but is still the best way of testing video and PC systems for any instabilities and best performance.

The difference between all three cards are very small, again with the Gigabyte 9800 Pro just scraping ahead.

Vulpine GLMark 1.1 - 1024 X 768 @ 32Bit

Vulpine GL mark is a Windows based OpenGL API designed to stress the OpenGL systems of a 3D Accelerator. Patch 1.1 adds in support for ATI Radeon 9700's fast 256bit memory interface optimisations and early support for the NVIDIA NV30 GPU

All cards are within one FPS of each other, we are noticing a small increase in the lower resolutions with the 9800s but in this case the Gigabyte 9800 is the slowest.
