Beginning with the Flash Stick device itself, you’ll notice that it is a simple USB device. Though this particular model measures in at 128MB, there are others available in 256MB, 512MB and 1GB sizes as well. This allows you to get the size that suits your personal needs. But remember, this isn’t meant as a hard drive substitution but as a means to transport data from one machine to another (or another device).
It is good to see that the folks coming up with these items realize that accidents can happen. Since this is a simple fact of life, the X-Micro crew added a small feature that may just be a life saver.
Say that you’re storing some vital information on this Flash Stick. Now you go and accidentally delete the data. In most cases this would mean the irrevocable loss of your important information, but in the case of the APEX you can help keep this from ever happening.
If you look in the center of the picture above, you’ll see a small switch. This is a write-protect switch that keeps your data from accidentally being deleted or overwritten. And while it takes something small (like the end of a paper clip) to move the switch, this will also keep it from moving from the locked position to the unlocked position when you’re carrying it around in your pocket.
