Memory: 2 x 512MB DDR-333 Corsair TWIN X (Supplied by Altech Computers)

 

Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon 9500 Pro 128MB (Supplied by Gigabyte)

 

Hard Disk: IBM 15.3GB 7200RPM ATA100

 

Drivers: ATI Catalyst 3.1

 

Software Used: SiSoft Sandra 2003, 3DMark2001, 3DMark2003, CPUMark, PCMark 2002, Sysmark 2002, Quake 3 Arena and Jedi Knight II

 

Benchmarks - Sandra 2003

 

SiSoft Sandra (the System ANalyser, Diagnostic and Reporting Assistant) 2002 is a synthetic Windows benchmark that features different tests used to evaluate different PC subsystems. We used this to test CPU Raw Performance, Multimedia Instruction Set and Memory Bandwidth Performance. While they are all synthetic results, they do give us a general idea of what is happening and where a component's strengths and weaknesses are.

 

 

Here we see the Gigabyte just ahead of the Asus but nothing significant. It seems that the Granite Bay doesn't give much boost in performance as far as the CPU is concerned.

 

 

As soon as you pull the memory benchmarks out this is really where you see the Granite Bay take off. Let's hope that the extra boost in memory carries over to some of the games.
