Logitech really is covering all the bases with its peripherals these days. The last Logitech product I reviewed was the MX Air Mouse and I thought that was a nifty bit of kit to control your home theater setup. The proverbial cake however has not just been taken; it’s been flaunted and eaten right in front of our starving faces.
I'm referring to the Logitech Harmony One remote control here; a nifty slick piece of all-in-one cake that can control TVs, DVD players, VCRs, game consoles, home media center PCs, air conditioning units and pretty much everything else that uses an Infrared transmitting remote control.
Looking at the box, it’s clear the window is there to show off the rather sleek looking remote. Looking at the unit; it has the standard array of buttons for controlling most entertainment systems, including four directional arrows and navigation buttons to allow use of windows media center.
Under the glossy top section is a small touch screen with hot keys opposite and underneath it. It also contains a light weight and importantly replaceable li-ion battery, much like the ones in mobile phones. This scores big points for the product already because I’m sick and tired of replacing batteries in remotes for my home theater setup. I've also had other all-in-one remotes and most are heavy and much larger than this because of the batteries and touch screens.
Opening the box, we find a charging adapter and a sweet looking "bed" for the remote control to charge in. I refrain from using "cradle" or "dock" because you lay the remote completely flat in the shaped groove and it feels like you are putting the remote to bed at the end of the night to charge.
