GIGABYTE X48T-DQ6 DDR3 Motherboard - Test System Setup and Memory Performance

We've seen the DDR2 variant; now it's time to look at GIGABYTE's top dog X48 based motherboard with DDR3 support.

Test System

 

Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad QX6700 @ 3GHz (9x333MHz)

 

Memory: 2x 1GB DDR3-1600XMP OCZ (Supplied by Geil)

 

Hard Disk: 500GB Seagate 7200.9 (Supplied by Seagate Australia)

 

Graphics Card: MSI GeForce 8800GTS 640MB (Supplied by MSI)

 

Cooling: GIGABYTE Neon3D Galaxy II (Supplied by GIGABYTE)

 

Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP SP2

 

Drivers: Intel INF 8.3.1.1009, Forceware 163.21

 

Once again our test system remains the same as the MSI X48 Platinum and ASUS P5E3 Premium Motherboard reviews, which we have included results into this review for comparison. Since these boards are in direct competition, it's worth having all three go up against each other.

 

At stock specs the boards ran with a FSB of 333MHz and a memory ratio to give DDR3-1333MHz. Our overclocking tests are pushed to the limits with regards to the FSB. Memory is always set to run 1:1 in overclocked mode. Our ASUS board ran with a 562 MHz FSB and our GIGABYTE X48T-DQ6 ran with a 569MHz FSB. The MSI X48 Platinum was set to an FSB of 558MHz. All boards were using 6x multipliers.

In memory performance we see Everest gives the GIGABYTE a slight lead at both stock and overclocked speeds. This could be due to the fact the FSB at 333MHz was actually 335MHz on the GIGABYTE, but it's still stable as a rock.
