The HDD stack cage is removable and once the two thumb screws are out, a simple clip mechanism allows for easy removal.
In addition to this, there are a further two brackets for HDDs on the bottom of the case. One of those brackets is interchangeable with a 140mmx140mm fan. The entire HDD stack is cooled by another 140mm x 140mm fan which should create ample airflow to keep all those HDDs below boiling point. You can add an additional (optional) fan to the other side of the HDD stack to propel air into the VGA region, thus cooling each area independently with dedicated cooling. If you are thinking about the Quad VGA solution, then this is a definite must to keep fresh cool air streaming through your case.
The next feature worth discussing is the handy spring loaded top cover; this has a plethora of useful connection ports, all accessible under the very cool top cover hood. The usual suspects are included such as 1x Firewire 1394 port, an Audio Microphone jack and Headphone jack, 4x USB 2.0 ports as well as two useful e-SATA ports. The “X” marks the spot theme as the on-button is a nice touch, with a reset button to the right and a HDD operational LED to the left. The hood can be closed with a satisfying click. These little touches of gimmickry are perfect for the target market, and really give the finishing touches one expects from a premium product.
A noteworthy inclusion in this list of features is the removable motherboard tray. It is certainly not a unique feature, but again Thermaltake has done very well in including it. The fact that this case is so spacious inside would make you think that it is not really necessary. Truth is, once you have used a motherboard tray in setting up a PC, you will always want to use one. There is nothing worse than fidgeting with connections, cables, screws and jumper cables etc. when the motherboard is already in the case. The motherboard tray is definitely a big plus for me.
Please be aware however that the handle is not as sturdy as it appears and Thermaltake would do well to improve the way the handle is connected to the case. I felt uncomfortable using the handle because it seemed like it might break. This is a minor issue, but if they are going to put a handle there, it should be strong enough to be used as such.
