I have said it before and I’ll say it again; the days of buying whatever power supply is currently in stock at your local store are gone. This component has become too important to settle for less than what you truly need. That said, you have to make some decisions regarding how much you can afford for a power supply and also make sure that you get what you pay for.
The Cooler Master Real Power M700 is a middle of the road power supply that is designed to handle the rigors of a machine that is more than “off the shelf” but not quite to the level of “overclockers dream”. In all regards of testing, it performed very well and showed very little fluctuation across any of the power rails. These levels of fluctuation ranged less than 1/100 of a volt, so you can rest assured that you will receive solid power when you need it.
Add to this the modular cabling design and you have a very nice feature that has been generally reserved for the elite power supplies coming out. With the ability to add only the cables you need, the task of cable management and airflow have suddenly become easier. This is a very nice addition. With the included cabling you also have the choice of 6-pin or 8-pin PCI-E. With newer video cards coming out requiring this new standard, it is good to see that the folks at Cooler Master are keeping up with the currently technology trends.
The biggest issue I noted is the severe lack of this particular product on store shelves and online etailer inventories. I have found several instances of the larger 750 watt model, but this little gem is very difficult to find. As a matter of fact, I was unable to find a single US based retailer for this model, so finding it could prove to be a challenge.
