DDR3 memory is now in high swing with modules coming out from all the major players. Just recently we did a roundup of three separate kits from OCZ, Kingston and Geil, each having their own distinct flavours and speeds.
DDR3 has already shown its ability to scale, JEDEC standards now support DDR3 memory modules up to 1333MHz, and I’m sure we will see 2000MHz modules soon enough, especially given that companies like OCZ and Corsair have already dished up kits hitting 1800MHz without any problems. DDR3 really has started to make a name for itself.
Intel currently hold the trump card on the DDR3 bandwagon, as only the Intel 3 series chipsets have any support for it. There is no news from Nvidia, ATI, VIA or SiS yet as to when their DDR3 offerings will appear, so we will have to stick with Intel, though this isn’t really such a bad thing.
Intel’s P35 chipset has already made a huge impact on the market, turning the Core 2 series of CPU into King of the PC platform. 1333MHz FSB, DDR3 memory and Crossfire already have it going strong. When X38 makes its debut, we will see Intel move into extreme performance with extreme memory, extreme turning and dual full-speed x16 PCI-Express lanes for Crossfire graphics, and hopefully SLI as well.
Today we are looking at GIGABYTE’s first DDR3 offering for the high-end market. Under the Dual Quad 6 series of board, the P35T-DQ6 is designed to carry on from the P35-DQ6. The big difference? Let’s have a look and find out.
