Being a lower end card we’ve cut down on our usual array of benchmark runs slightly. There are no AA or AF tests and we have also removed Rydermark and Supreme Commander. Apart from that we have our normal layout which tests everything from synthetic to real world gaming, while also looking at power, sound and heat.
We have compared the 8400GS against the 8500GT, from a pricing perspective you’re looking at around $20AUD / $15US extra for the 8500GT (about 20% more).
3DMark05 is now the second latest version in the popular 3DMark “Gamers Benchmark” series. It includes a complete set of DX9 benchmarks which tests Shader Model 2.0 and above.

Straight away we can see that the 8500GT has a good lead on Zotac’s 8400GS. It translates to around 25% faster at both resolutions so we will see if this carries on through the other tests.
