Final Thoughts

We have said it before and we will say it again... DDR-3 is going to be the way for Intel platforms for the end of 2007/2008, its higher performance due to clock speed increases as well as its lower voltage makes it more appealing than DDR-2.

DDR-2 though is still the mainstream memory, as both Intel chipsets still utilise it, and with AMD having its memory controller on the CPU, it is a hard task of upgrading the AMD platform, so you stick with what you got, and DDR-2 is the best bet till the end of 2007.

DDR-2 has now reached its limits; very few companies are able to hit speeds above 1066MHz DDR-2, in fact only OCZ and Corsair really are the only ones who have had any great success at it. This is the third kit we have seen to do it.

OCZ’s Reaper HPC edition modules are very well designed for the active cooling users who are not into water cooling. While the limiting 1GB kit we got did disappoint us, the overall performance was extremely impressive, and if we have more time, we really think we could have broken over 600MHz with these modules, no worries.

Overall OCZ has a fantastic product here and are worth considering if you are looking to increase performance over older DDR-2 memory modules. Just quickly, since we were sent these modules, it seems like OCZ is now only selling them in 2GB packs, which works out better anyway in our opinion but they are going to set you back quite a few more dollars than regular memory.

- Pros
