Our Crucial Ballistix Tracer modules were quite impressive for their price and design. Rated to run 1066MHz at a voltage of 2.2V we managed to squeeze a total of 547MHz or 1094MHz at DDR speeds.
We used our new Gigabyte P35-DQ6 motherboard that not only allows for a faster FSB overclock, it also has an improved memory controller which is much more tolerant to memory timings as well as overclocking. To do our tests, we have done three separate tests on each module. Our first is at stock speeds at 800MHz using SPD timings, which is what the P35 chipset is designed to run with in the DDR-2 form.
From there we did some tests to see what the lowest possible latencies we could get would be. We managed to get 4-4-5-15 using 2.3V on the memory. Without this extra voltage the memory would not run stable at this speed and timings.
Lastly we did overclocking tests. These were done with the memory at it highest possible speeds with the timings loosened off to allow a maximum overclock.
Important Editor Note: Our maximum overclocking result is the best result we managed in our limited time testing the motherboard. Due to time constraints we do not have enough time to tweak the motherboard to the maximum and find the highest possible FSB as this could take days to properly find. We do however spend at least a few hours overclocking every motherboard to try and find the highest possible overclock in that time frame. You may or may not be able to overclock higher if you spend more time tweaking or as new BIOS updates are released or burn in time might come into play if you believe in that.
