ATTO Technology, Inc., a manufacturer specializing in storage and network connectivity products for data-intensive computing, will demonstrate its portfolio of end-to-end solutions to manage and optimize virtualized and physical infrastructures at VMworld 2015 in San Francisco, California, August 30 through September 3. Among the solutions on display are two ATTO product lines that recently received VMware vSphere 6.0 certification: Celerity 16Gb/8Gb Fibre Channel and ExpressSAS 12Gb/s SAS/SATA Host Bus Adapters.
ATTO's VMworld booth will feature a demo of our exclusive vConfig Tool with Latency Scout, a new software plug-in for VMware vCenter that enables IT administrators to increase efficiency and maintain application service levels by providing a common view into the virtual and physical storage infrastructure. In addition, ATTO will preview a platform-independent application designed to work in conjunction with its FibreBridge 7500 Storage Controller to identify and manage latency using real-time storage performance analytics.
"Today's challenging IT environments require specialized management tools," said Tom Kolniak, Director of Products at ATTO Technology. "By using ATTO's vConfig Tool plug-in with Latency Scout, IT administrators get the information they need to monitor storage I/O latency, isolate bottlenecks and quickly make adjustments within the datacenter. ATTO's software tools are essential components for optimizing performance of the hardware-based solutions that we will demonstrate at VMworld 2015."
Build Your Own SSD Flash Storage
ATTO's FibreBridge 7500 Storage Controller is a high-performance platform that accelerates all reads and writes in hardware and adds Enterprise-level 16Gb/s Fibre Channel SAN connectivity and diagnostic, management and monitoring tools to up to 40 off-the-shelf SAS JBOD or JBOF enclosures. The 7500 offers a modular solution for building out SSD, HDD or hybrid SSD/HDD pools that aggregate up to 3.8PB of storage (when using 4TB SSDs). By delivering 1.47M 4K IOPS in dual-controller configurations and less than 4 microseconds of latency, the 7500 provides unmatched $/IOPS value and the lowest access latency in the industry.
At VMworld, ATTO will showcase the FibreBridge 7500 running I/O from a VMware server to an all-flash 12Gb SAS SSD array. The active demo will also include ATTO's Celerity Gen 5 powered 16Gb Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) and vConfig Tool software utility with Latency Scout. Celerity 16Gb Fibre Channel HBAs are engineered to optimize data transfer using a combination of exclusive features. N-Port ID Virtualization (NPIV) enables each Fibre Channel HBA to define multiple "virtual ports" that can be assigned to each virtual machine, letting administrators manage storage in much the same way they manage storage attached to physical machines. Advanced Data Streaming (ADS), a feature found throughout all ATTO HBA lines, manages I/O latency for high-performance applications.
ATTO's vConfig Tool integrates centralized management and monitoring into VMware's vCenter. Built upon ATTO's well-established Config Tool, it provides information from host down through the LUN level, allowing IT administrators running complex infrastructures with increasing number of virtual machines to accelerate adapter deployment, improve system availability and reduce infrastructure costs. ATTO's demo will additionally highlight Latency Scout, an exclusive storage I/O latency statistic feature included with vConfig Tool that can be used to quickly identify bottlenecks within the datacenter to optimize system performance, ensure infrastructure uptime and meet corporate service level agreements.
Designed to be deployed on standard x86 servers in a heterogeneous hardware environment, VMware Virtual SAN significantly reduces storage TCO for small workgroups while offering the flexibility to use all-flash or hybrid flash/HDD configurations depending on performance requirements. Built into VMware ESXi 5.5 or later, Virtual SAN can also reduce OPEX by simplifying storage and network setup and administration.
ATTO's second VMworld demo will show how ExpressSAS SAS/SATA HBAs and FastFrame 10GbE NICs power VMware Virtual SAN solutions. Available in 12Gb/s and 6Gb/s versions, ExpressSAS HBAs are optimized for low latency, high-bandwidth data transfers and provide a wide variety of port configurations and RAID levels. FastFrame 10GbE NICs deliver high performance I/O connectivity and lossless Ethernet support where guaranteed data delivery rates are required.
Stretch Cluster and Disaster Avoidance
Stretch Clusters enable continuous access to data across geographically distributed data centers. The benefits that Stretch Clusters provide include active balancing of online workloads between sites, non-disruptive migration of virtual machines with vMotion and business continuity in the event of planned or unplanned downtime. With over 30,000 installations worldwide, ATTO FibreBridge Storage Controllers are a proven solution in Stretch Cluster installations.
ATTO's third VMworld demo will display how companies can use FibreBridge Storage Controllers to architect their own stretch cluster solutions. A related demo highlight will be a proof of concept of ATTO's Real-time Storage Performance Analytics Tool, a standalone, platform-independent application designed to measure real-time IOPS, throughput, latency and latency distribution of storage subsystems and attached hosts connected to ATTO Storage Controllers. Currently under development, this application provides numerical data and visual representations that IT Managers can use to identify resource contention issues and proactively maintain storage performance.
