AMD announces its DLSS competitor: FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR)

Anthony Garreffa | May 31, 2021 10:00 PM CDT

AMD has just made its DLSS competitor official with the announcement of FidelityFX Super Resolution, or FSR -- because I don't want to be typing out FidelityFX Super Resolution and Deep Learning Super Sampling every sentence.

AMD announces its DLSS competitor: FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR)

The introduction of FSR is very similar to NVIDIA and its DLSS technology, but in some ways better and in other ways worse. First off, AMD used Godfall in its presentation powered by the Radeon RX 6800 XT at 4K on the Epic preset with ray tracing enabled.

In its 4K native form, the Radeon RX 6800 XT was capable of 49FPS average, but with FSR set to Performance, we're looking at a giant leap up to 150FPS average.

AMD Radeon RX 6800M: mobile RDNA 2 runs Cyberpunk 2077 at 1440p 60FPS

Anthony Garreffa | May 31, 2021 10:00 PM CDT

AMD has just announced its new Radeon RX 6000M series of mobile RDNA 2 graphics cards, with the flagship Radeon RX 6800M leading the pack.

AMD Radeon RX 6800M: mobile RDNA 2 runs Cyberpunk 2077 at 1440p 60FPS

The new Radeon RX 6800M will find its way inside of next-gen gaming laptops over the coming months, offering 40 Compute Units (compared to 72 CUs on the desktop RX 6800 XT). The GPU has a Game Clock of up to 2300MHz, while AMD packs in 12GB of GDDR6 memory and 96MB of Infinity Cache.

This isn't much of a cut down from the desktop Radeon RX 6800 XT which has 16GB of GDDR6 memory and 128MB of Infinity Cache. Not bad AMD... not bad at all. As for performance, AMD is wanting to nail the 1440p max settings market and the Radeon RX 6800M does just that.

Tune into AMD's Computex 2021 keynote here, expect a lot of news

Anthony Garreffa | May 31, 2021 3:08 PM CDT

Normally I'd be sitting in one of those uncomfortable chairs in the middle of Taipei, Taiwan for the annual Computex -- one of the best, most fun times for being a nerd (and work) but this year... all virtual. AMD won't be in Taiwan either, no one will, and will host their virtual Computex 2021 keynote later tonight US time.

Tune into AMD's Computex 2021 keynote here, expect a lot of news

You can stream it live in the YouTube link above, with AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su to take the virtual stage and announce new products in both CPU and GPU divisions, and more. AMD themed the keynote itself "AMD Accelerating - The High-Performance Computing Ecosystem".

AMD will most likely talk about it's next-gen mobile RDNA 2 graphics cards, its next-gen RDNA 3 architecture, the new Radeon PRO graphics cards, and more. We could expect a new next-gen Ryzen Threadripper codenamed Chagall, powered by the new Zen 3 architecture.

Here's how you can watch NVIDIA's Computex 2021 keynote + GPU reveals

Anthony Garreffa | May 31, 2021 2:00 PM CDT

NVIDIA will kick off its virtual Computex 2021 keynote in a few hours, where we should be greeted with new Ampere GPUs in the form of the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and GeForce RTX 3070 Ti graphics cards. You can stream the NVIDIA Computex 2021 keynote right here:

Here's how you can watch NVIDIA's Computex 2021 keynote + GPU reveals

NVIDIA Senior VP Jeff Fisher will be joined by NVIDIA Head of Enterprise Computing, Manuvir Das, with multiple announcements in their respective segments. We know that NVIDIA will be unveiling two new desktop GeForce RTX 30 series GPUs, but we should expect some new RTX + DLSS announcements (DOOM Eternal), new GeForce RTX 30 series gaming laptops, and more.

Could there be a surprise new GPU? Possibly. But what would it be? A new TITAN RTX possibly? I guess we'll be finding out later tonight. What we do know is that we should see DOOM Eternal's much anticipated RTX ray tracing update, which will add ray tracing support into the game.

Intel Xe-HPG DG2 PCB teased: 16GB VRAM, GeForce RTX 3080 performance

Anthony Garreffa | May 30, 2021 8:04 PM CDT

We're in the middle of the greatest graphics card shortage of all time, and here we are teasing Intel's upcoming Xe-HPG gaming-focused card based on the Intel DG2 family of GPUs.

Intel Xe-HPG DG2 PCB teased: 16GB VRAM, GeForce RTX 3080 performance

Intel's upcoming Xe-HPG PCB has been leaked, teasing what happens underneath of the board in its evaluation and testing phase. This is an engineering sample and will look nothing like the final retail cards will look like, and I'm sure they won't even look anywhere near as good as those concept images from when Chris Hook was running things.

Tom from Moore's Law is Dead teased the PCB, showing that it's quite a long card in its engineering sample form. There's plenty of details here, with this being the 512 Execution Units (EUs) version of Intel Xe-HPG, which will be joined by 384 EU and 128 EU versions of the card.

NVIDIA DLSS and Reflex tech is inside of next-gen Unreal Engine 5

Anthony Garreffa | May 26, 2021 10:33 PM CDT

Epic Games has unleashed the next-gen Unreal Engine 5 which looks truly mind-blowing and will usher in the future of next-gen games powered by UE5. NVIDIA and AMD have both got their latest and greatest technologies supported inside of Unreal Engine 5.

NVIDIA DLSS and Reflex tech is inside of next-gen Unreal Engine 5

A post on the NVIDIA developer website reminds gamers that the company launched its RTX technology with the Star Wars demo called Reflection. Reflection was built on Unreal Engine 4 at the time and looked CG-style good. It "laid out a vision of a new era of computer graphics for video games that featured photorealistic, ray-traced lighting, AI-powered effects and complex worlds with massive amounts of geometry and high-resolution textures".

Well, now Unreal Engine 5 is here and NVIDIA is able to take things to an entirely new level with what Epic Games has built into the UE5 bag of tricks.

GeForce RTX 3080 Ti listed at over $2700, RTX 3070 Ti costs over $2000

Anthony Garreffa | May 24, 2021 9:18 PM CDT

We shouldn't be surprised at the totally bonkers pre-release pricing on NVIDIA's unannounced GeForce RTX 3080 Ti graphics card at this point... but the new GeForce RTX 3080 Ti has been spotted in Pakistan with retailers charging an insane price of $2700 or so.

GeForce RTX 3080 Ti listed at over $2700, RTX 3070 Ti costs over $2000

Pakistani retailer Thrift.PK has listed Palit's new custom GeForce RTX 3080 Ti GameRock and Gaming Pro graphics cards for around $2700, while Palit's custom GeForce RTX 3070 Ti GameRock and Gaming Pro graphics cards are going for around $2700.

It gets worse: these prices are for the base models, while the higher-end custom RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3070 Ti cards from Palit will be even more expensive.
