NVIDIA adds GPU System Processor support (GSP) on Ampere, Turing GPUs

Anthony Garreffa | Jan 18, 2022 7:31 PM CST

NVIDIA has just enabled GPU Select Processor (GSP) on certain GPUs with its new 510.39 driver, with select Tesla and Data Center GPUs based on the Ampere and Turing GPU architectures.

NVIDIA adds GPU System Processor support (GSP) on Ampere, Turing GPUs

GSP will offload tasks that are otherwise handled by the CPU, over to the GPU -- these tasks include GPU utilization and management tasks -- but you can still force-disable GSP if you want. You will lose some display-related and power management features, but those features aren't built into GSP at this time.

NVIDIA explains: "Some GPUs include a GPU System Processor (GSP) which can be used to offload GPU initialization and management tasks. This processor is driven by the firmware file /lib/firmware/nvidia/510.39.01/gsp.bin. A few select products currently use GSP by default, and more products will take advantage of GSP in future driver releases".

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti with GA103-200 GPU spotted, coming soon?

Anthony Garreffa | Jan 18, 2022 6:33 PM CST

NVIDIA is preparing a new GeForce RTX 3060 Ti graphics card, with a new GA103-200-A1 GPU that will reportedly feature the same specs as the higher-end GA104 GPU.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti with GA103-200 GPU spotted, coming soon?

The new GA103-200 GPU is a big deal here as it is different to the GA104 GPU that powers a large range of NVIDIA's current-gen Ampere GPUs: RTX 3070 Ti, RTX 3070, RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 3060, RTX 3070 Lite Hash Rate, RTX 3060 Lite Hash Rate. This is now the third variant of the GA103 GPU, and we might actually have a huge supply from NVIDIA which would be great at this price point of the (insane) market.

We're finding out about the new GeForce RTX 3060 Ti with its GA103-200 GPU (with its 7680 CUDA cores) from the new 511 Studio driver NVIDIA pushed out, which had a new device ID of 2414 -- matching the PCI Device family of NVIDIA's GA103 GPU -- the new GPU making the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU.

AMD Radeon PRO W6400 workstation GPU should be revealed on January 19

Anthony Garreffa | Jan 17, 2022 9:35 PM CST

It looks like AMD Is about to reveal a new workstation GPU, with the upcoming Radeon PRO W6400 card teased for a January 19 announcement. Check it out:

AMD Radeon PRO W6400 workstation GPU should be revealed on January 19

AMD has teased some blue gemstones that could be Sapphire, Tanzanite, or Kynite -- with a new king -- a king of its class, that is. We're not talking about a new performance king that would hit the high-end, but rather a new Navi 24-based budget workstation GPU that will compete against the NVIDIA T600 Turing GPU.

It should be the last member in the stack of RDNA 2 cards, but offer AMD a battle partner to NVIDIA's T600 Turing GPU. We will know more details in a few days, but I would expect less VRAM than usual and a single PCIe power connector. We'll know all about AMD's new Navi 24-based Radeon PRO W6400 (and whatever else the company unveils) on January 19.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Matrix Resurrections GPU giveaway in China

Anthony Garreffa | Jan 17, 2022 8:48 PM CST

NVIDIA teased the world with one of the best custom GeForce RTX 3080 Ti -- hell, one of the best custom graphics cards ever -- with its GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Matrix Resurrections Edition graphics card.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Matrix Resurrections GPU giveaway in China

The GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Matrix Resurrections Edition graphics card is being given away in China, based on the reference RTX 3080 Ti, with a custom front black and backplate that says "War Starts on 1/14" as a laser-etched LED logo. It looks pretty damn good, celebrating the release of The Matrix Resurrections in China on 1/14.

If you want to win the card, first off you'll need to be a resident of China, and then you'll need to write a sentence about how you're a huge fan of both The Matrix and GeForce GPUs, and post it on Weibo.

NVIDIA GeForce Game Ready 511.23: RTX 3080 12GB support + DLDSR tech

Anthony Garreffa | Jan 17, 2022 8:08 PM CST

NVIDIA's new GeForce Game Ready 511.23 WHQL drivers have been released, with the new drivers including support for NVIDIA's just-released GeForce RTX 3080 12GB graphics card.

NVIDIA GeForce Game Ready 511.23: RTX 3080 12GB support + DLDSR tech

The new drivers also include support for NVIDIA's new DLDSR (Deep Learning Dynamic Super Resolution) technology, as well as Game Ready Driver support for Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Extraction, Hitman III, The Anacrusis, GRIT, and Monster Hunter Rise. There's also support added for Windows 11 Dynamic Refresh Rate, and support for CUDA 11.6.

The biggest part here with the new GeForce Game Ready 511.23 WHQL drivers is the support for the new GeForce RTX 3080 12GB graphics card, which you could buy last week before even the press had drivers. The new drivers have baked-in support for the RTX 3080 12GB, DLDSR, a bunch of new games, and the usual fixed issues along the way.

MSI GeForce RTX 3090 Ti SUPRIM X: huge 480W TDP, 1900MHz GPU boost

Anthony Garreffa | Jan 17, 2022 7:27 PM CST

MSI's new flagship GeForce RTX 3090 Ti SUPRIM X graphics card has been teased, with new specifications leaked that include a default 480W TDP.

MSI GeForce RTX 3090 Ti SUPRIM X: huge 480W TDP, 1900MHz GPU boost

The new MSI GeForce RTX 3090 Ti SUPRIM X not only has a 480W TDP, which is 30W higher than their custom MSI RTX 3090 SUPRIM X, but it has 24GB of even-more-ultra-fast GDDR6X memory clocked at 21Gbps. GPU boost clock wise we're looking at "EXTREME" mode pushing the GPU to 1900MHz, while "GAMING" and "SILENT" modes have the GPU clocked at 20MHz less, 1880MHz.

You will need 3 x 8-pin PCIe power connectors, where we should see the sleeker, single 16-pin PCIe 5.0 power connector on NVIDIA's own flagship GeForce RTX 3090 Ti Founders Edition. MSI most likely won't have this card for a while, as I exclusively reported a few days ago that an industry source of mine said NVIDIA has "halted production" on the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti... and we still don't know why.

Anthony Garreffa | Jan 14, 2022 9:29 PM CST

NVIDIA announced its new flagship GeForce RTX 3090 Ti graphics card at CES 2022, but I've just reported exclusively that NVIDIA has halted production on the RTX 3090 Ti -- not stopping GIGABYTE from preparing its new GeForce RTX 3090 Ti graphics cards.

GIGABYTE's custom GeForce RTX 3090 Ti graphics cards teased

GIGABYTE has a fleet of new custom RTX 30 series GPUs on the way, with the new flagship GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3090 Ti AORUS Xtreme Waterforce -- a new watercooled card -- and the new GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3090 Ti Gaming OC graphics card. We should expect to see the RTX 3090 Ti Gaming OC be an air-cooled variant, both laden with RGB lighting.

In the new EEC listing, it wasn't just the new flagship GeForce RTX 3090 Ti that gets some new custom card lovin' from GIGABYTE, but also the new GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Gaming OC Stealth, and not just 1 but 4 new GeForce RTX 3050 cards. The new GeForce RTX 3050 cards include the RTX 3050 Gaming OC, RTX 3050 Eagle OC, RTX 3050 Gaming, and RTX 3050 Mini.

NVIDIA: GPU shortages improve in 2H 2022, as RTX 40 series launches

Anthony Garreffa | Jan 14, 2022 6:08 PM CST

NVIDIA is preparing its next-gen Ada Lovelace GPU architecture behind the scenes, cooking in the silicon oven, while I just reported exclusively that NVIDIA has halted production on its new flagship GeForce RTX 3090 Ti -- and now, we're hearing comments from NVIDIA on GPU shortages, and that things will improve in the coming months.

NVIDIA: GPU shortages improve in 2H 2022, as RTX 40 series launches

NVIDIA CFO Colette Kress said during the 24th Annual Needham Growth Conference that the GPU shortage will improve in 2H 2022, that there is gigantic demand from gamers for GeForce GPUs, and that there are more people wanting to buy their chips than they have on hand right now.

Kress said: "So even throughout all of calendar 2021, we have seen strong demand for GeForce. And it continues to remain strong and stronger than our overall supply that we have. The holiday demand, for example, was quite strong, particularly in laptops. And we're still finishing out our quarter. But we'll look at the end of the quarter in terms of what we've seen in terms of channel levels. We had seen channel levels be quite lean, and we are working with our supply chain partners to increase the availability of supply. And we feel better about our supply situation as we move into the second half of the calendar year '22".

GeForce RTX 3090 Ti production halted, trouble in silicon paradise?

Anthony Garreffa | Jan 14, 2022 7:44 AM CST

Exclusive: NVIDIA's new flagship GeForce RTX 3090 Ti graphics card was announced at CES 2022, and was meant to be released later this month... but yeah, that might not be happening.

GeForce RTX 3090 Ti production halted, trouble in silicon paradise?

I've had an industry source reach out to me talking about the situation with NVIDIA and its latest GPUs, where I was told that NVIDIA asked AIB partners to "pause production" on their custom GeForce RTX 3090 Ti graphics cards. I asked if they knew the reason, but they didn't know why NVIDIA asked them to pause production.

The new NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti is meant to be an absolute GPU monster, with upgrades in every way right up to a huge new 450W TDP. But asking AIB partners to "pause production" out of nowhere without an explanation? That's weird, but maybe there are problems in silicon paradise? First Samsung has major issues with its new AMD RDNA 2-powered Exynos 2200 SoC -- made on Samsung's in-house process node -- and so too are NVIDIA's current flock of Ampere-based GeForce RTX 30 series GPUs, including the new flagship GeForce RTX 3090 Ti.
