Update:

Sigh: Intel delays Arc A-Series GPUs for laptops, don't be surprised

Intel launched its Arc GPUs for laptops last week, but it's not like anyone would notice... because while Intel says that the Arc A350 and 370M-powered laptops are "available starting now" they're still not out yet.... and now... delayed.

The Arc journey was meant to begin with the entry-level Arc 3 series GPUs which were meant to be available instantly, but laptops with the Intel Arc A350 and A370M GPUs don't exist in our dimension. The story gets worse as the official Intel Support account has said that Intel Arc-powered laptops will be available by the end of Q2 2022.

Anthony Garreffa | Apr 7, 2022 7:26 PM CDT

GALAX has its new GeForce RTX 3090 Ti "HOF OC Lab Edition" graphics card doing the rounds, with Japanese extreme OC master "Duck OC" getting one of the first of them off the production line.

GALAX GeForce RTX 3090 Ti 'HOF OC Lab Edition' PCB spotted in the nude

It appears "Duck OC" has one of the first cards, and has stripped the GALAX RTX 3090 Ti "HOF OC Lab Edition" down to its PCB... and man, it is beautiful. We have a fully-custom PCB, one of the best GA102 GPUs that NVIDIA makes, a huge 24+4-phase VRM design (18+3 on NVIDIA's in-house reference) and so much more under the hood.

GALAX doesn't just use a single 16-pin PCIe power connector, but rather two 16-pin PCIe power connectors that each pump 600W of power... for a total of 1275W of power. You will need the custom "XOC" BIOS that overclockers have access to, and the GALAX RTX 3090 Ti "HOF OC Lab Edition" GPU is just that.

GPU market hit $51.8 billion in 2021, 50+ million GPUs shipped in 2021

Anthony Garreffa | Apr 7, 2022 6:26 PM CDT

We have endured the entire of 2021 without seeing GPU prices at normal levels, and yet GPU shipments hit record levels.

GPU market hit $51.8 billion in 2021, 50+ million GPUs shipped in 2021

In the latest research report from analyst firm Jon Peddie Research (JPR) we discover that AIB shipments skyrocketed in 2021 by 29.5% year-over-year, and up 3% quarter-to-quarter. JPR reports that the AIB market reached a huge $51.8 billion in 2021, with GPU shipments expected to continue to rise throughout 2022.

Dr. Jon Peddie, president of JPR said: "Intel is poised to enter the AIB market in 2022. It is unknown if the company will sell add-in-boards as AMD and NVIDIA do, or just offer chips. The company is entering the market at a high point and may be surprised when the hangover of COVID and crypto mining falls off. The big question most people are asking is how much market share will the company take?"

Intel teases Arc Alchemist prototype GPU: 3 x 8-pin power connectors

Anthony Garreffa | Apr 6, 2022 7:27 PM CDT

Intel has officially teased something fresh in a new video, a desktop Arc GPU with 3 x 8-pin PCIe power connectors... a response to NVIDIA's new flagship GeForce RTX 3090 Ti.

Intel teases Arc Alchemist prototype GPU: 3 x 8-pin power connectors

In a video interview with Intel Graphics Innovation Fellow Tom "TAP" Peterson and HotHardware, we get a tiny glimpse of the Intel Arc GPU with 3 x 8-pin PCIe power connectors. We don't know anything about it, other than the 3 x 8-pin PCIe power connectors capable of feeding 150W each for a total of 450W + 75W from the board for 500W.

This isn't a regular Arc Alchemist, but it could be the higher-end Battlemage which Intel is get aring for the "Enthusiast" performance market. Intel also recently introduced the new ATX 3.0 and ATX12VO 2.0 standards, which are ready to rock and roll with next-gen GPUs and up to 600W of power.

Vietnamese retailer uses NVIDIA RTX workstation GPUs for crypto mining

Anthony Garreffa | Apr 5, 2022 9:32 PM CDT

I know what I'd do if I had hundreds and hundreds of NVIDIA RTX A4000 workstation GPUs laying around... put them to work in a GPU crypto mining farm... right?

Vietnamese retailer uses NVIDIA RTX workstation GPUs for crypto mining

Vietnamese retailer "Nyugen Cong PC" is proudly bragging that it has systems with 8 x NVIDIA RTX A4000 workstation GPUs that are strictly being provided to crypto miners. The systems are mighty powerful, pushing out 500MH/s+ with the retailer saying that the RTX A4000-based systems are cheaper, and faster than the RTX 3070 Ti GPUs.

The systems look absolutely beautiful, with the Vietnamese retailer doing some meticulous work on the systems... with NVIDIA's RTX A4000 workstation GPUs sitting there mining away. It's still weird that NVIDIA is able to hand out boxes and boxes of its workstation-ready GPUs and then see them being used in crypto mining farms... I don't know how it continues to happen, but this is just yet another story.

ZOTAC GeForce RTX 3090 Ti PGF OC: 4-slot, thickest RTX 3090 Ti so far

Anthony Garreffa | Apr 4, 2022 11:59 PM CDT

ZOTAC has just revealed its new GeForce RTX 3090 Ti PGF OC graphics card, a new China-exclusive absolute behemoth of a GPU... clocking in at a huge 4-slot card.

ZOTAC GeForce RTX 3090 Ti PGF OC: 4-slot, thickest RTX 3090 Ti so far

The new ZOTAC GeForce RTX 3090 Ti PGF OC graphics card has the same GPU specs as the ZOTAC RTX 3090 Ti AMP Extreme, with a GPU boost clock of up to 1890MHz and default TDP of 450W. But, the AMP Extreme can enjoy a modified 495W of power with overclocking... we should expect the same with the RTX 3090 Ti PGF OC model.

But man... is the new ZOTAC RTX 3090 Ti PGF OC a big boi, with a huge 4-slot design that towers over the 3.5-slot design of the ZOTAC RTX 3090 Ti AMP Extreme GPU. The 4-slot design makes it the biggest custom GeForce RTX 3090 Ti on the planet so far... and they're all chunky beasts as it is.

TSMC to supply NVIDIA's next-gen GPUs, breaks up with Samsung

Anthony Garreffa | Apr 4, 2022 8:07 PM CDT

NVIDIA is cozying up very tightly with TSMC leading into its next-gen Ada Lovelace GPU launch later this year, which will power the new GeForce RTX 40 series graphics cards... with new reports teasing TSMC will be the sole supplier of NVIDIA's GPUs in 2022.

TSMC to supply NVIDIA's next-gen GPUs, breaks up with Samsung

We all know the issues that NVIDIA has been facing with its current Ampere GPU architecture, which is being fabbed by Samsung on their custom 8nm process. The new GA102 powering the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti is chewing upwards of 500W, with some custom models offering up to 1275W of power. This is all a big test for the next-gen GPUs, which are looking at using 600W+ of power.

The inefficient Samsung 8nm node can't compete with TSMC 7nm let alone TSMC's new 5N process node, which should see NVIDIA's new Ada Lovelace GPU call home in 2022 and beyond. NVIDIA isn't a stranger to TSMC, it's just been making most of its GeForce GPUs with South Korean rival Samsung, and it hasn't gone so well -- so the big switch back to TSMC is happening -- and a lot of money is exchanging hands, I'm sure.

AMD also delays, RDNA 2 refresh aren't coming until May 10 now

Anthony Garreffa | Apr 4, 2022 6:29 PM CDT

AMD was gearing up for its big RDNA 2 refresh on April 20, but that has been delayed according to the latest rumors -- with a new RDNA 2 refresh launch of May 10 -- just over a month from now.

AMD also delays, RDNA 2 refresh aren't coming until May 10 now

We can expect AMD to unleash a trio of new all-black Radeon RX 6000 series refresh GPUs, led by the new flagship Radeon RX 6950 XT graphics card. After that, we'll have the Radeon RX 6750 XT and the lower-end Radeon RX 6650 XT graphics cards.

AMD will be splashing out with faster GDDR6 memory clocked at 18Gbps, up from the 16Gbps GDDR6 on the Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs. The new flagship Radeon RX 6950 XT rocks a huge design just like the current Radeon RX 6900 XT has, but we should expect a big chunk of performance on top of the RX 6900 XT (like the new RTX 3090 Ti offers over the RTX 3090).

Intel Arc Alchemist GPU: up to 2250MHz boost, 175W on desktop Arc GPUs

Anthony Garreffa | Apr 3, 2022 11:46 PM CDT

Intel's new desktop Arc Alchemist GPUs are only a few months away, and thanks to their recent presentation video of their Arc Control panel, desktop GPU details appeared.

Intel Arc Alchemist GPU: up to 2250MHz boost, 175W on desktop Arc GPUs

Intel is rolling out a new GPU monitoring suite for its Arc Alchemist and Xe Iris desktop GPUs called Arc Control, with the recent presentation teaing the new "Performance Tab" for GPU monitoring and basic overclocking (OC) tools. In the quick sneak peak, Intel had a live performance monitoring panel showing the GPU power, GPU clock, and VRAM clock of the GPU inside of the PC.

We don't know which GPU that Intel was using in the machine, but it would've been an Arc Alchemist desktop GPU of some kind -- with a GPU boost clock of 2250MHz, GPU power (not the entire card, but the GPU only) at 175W and the GDDR6 memory clocks at 1093MHz. None of the new Arc Alchemist mobile GPUs have a power draw of 175W, with the Arc A770M maxing out at 150W. But remember, the 175W is GPU power draw alone... not the entire card... meaning we're looking at 200-225W+ full power for the whole card.
