GIGABYTE Booth Shows A Well Rounded Product Offering

COMPUTEX Taipei 2010 - I am back home in the States but still have some Computex news bits to show you guys. First for this evening we have the GIGABYTE booth where the company was showing everything from motherboards and notebooks to server boards and servers.

When we hear GIGABYTE we think awesome desktop motherboards or even USB 3.0 these days but they have been making parts for the entire industry for many years now. Here we see one of the latest workstation boards built for dual Xeon processors and sixteen memory modules.

Making server boards is one thing but GIGABYTE also sells servers as well. Here we see two barebone servers that just need processors, memory and drives supplied by the customer.

A-DATA new corporate identity and the reasons behind it

COMPUTEX Taipei 2010 - On our last day on the show floor we found ourselves back at the A-DATA booth where Robert gave us an official interview discussing the new changes in its corporate identity.

Thanks for the interview Robert and telling us about the new A-DATA.

NVIDIA's Future is so Bright...

COMPUTEX Taipei 2010 - ... they gotta wear shades. Sometimes I just can't help myself but then again neither could NVIDIA today. Starting off a keynote speech asking for a moment to reflect on your technological achievements isn't a really bad way to kick things off, unless it's everyone's job in the room to already know everything you have accomplished.

Things have to be tough for the Green Team as of late and by starting off saying that we are going to look back only tells me you don't have a lot to say about your future. At that point I had a feeling it was going to be a show with a few prop tossed in. Here we see the NVIDIA CEO having a bit of a scripted conversation with ASUS' CEO. Not a bad prop to be able to call on.

It was a rather big surprise to see that 75% of our readers have not yet heard about Google TV.

For the actual numbers, go here. In our latest poll, we want to know what is going to be hot at Computex Taipei 2010? Let us know! Please go here to vote!

So, what's going to be hot at Computex Taipei 2010?

Every few weeks or so we hold a tech event in Taipei for people involved in the tech industry. It is a time where these people get together and discuss technology developments and shares some drinks.

For this event, we just finished of our latest gathering and for a change I thought it would be interesting to see what the folks thought would be hot at Computex Taipei 2010 next week. Without holding...

There you go.

Computex Taipei 2010 bigger than ever in its 30th year?

1981 was the year that the first ever annual Computex trade show was held in Taiwan and show organizers TAITRA are expecting another bumper year according to executives from the pre-show international press conference this morning.

Mr. Yen, executive director of TAITRA, commented that the 30th annual trade show to be held from June 1st through till the 5th is expected to see even higher attendance numbers due to a larger confidence in the ICT business compared to this time last April. He also noted in his speech that it is expected that more than 42% of international buyers will come from mainland China, noting that previously disallowed direct flights between the mainland and Taiwan have assisted those numbers.

Press gathered at the event were told that the technology trends for Computex Taipei 2010 are cloud computing, 3D displays, Google Android and e-reader devices. Yen commented that we could expect to see many (product) surprises from Taiwanese companies at this year's show in these product categories.

TAITRA only expects Computex to grow in future years due to strong local exhibitor interest. We were told that no less than 300 local companies are on the waiting list, which is expected to provide that future growth. It was all smiles and hopefulness during the press conference event for all of the organizers involved in putting on the show, in some contrast to other similar trade shows around the world (such as CES and CeBIT), which are seeing dwindling numbers.

See you in June, Computex!

Simulating Realistic 'Hair' demo with GeForce GTX 480 at GDC 2010

During the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco last week, NVIDIA was showing off a demo showcasing just how well its upcoming GeForce GTX 480 'Fermi' video card can draw realistic hair.

Nicole Scott from Netbooknews was on hand to shot a video of the DirectX 11 based 'Hair' demo that is used to showcase the power and precision of the upcoming GPU from NVIDIA. In the demo we see how the free moving hair reacts to light changes, wind flowing through the hair and more. It's really impressive and worth a play of the video below.

I always love seeing this technology demonstrations just before a product launch!

Fermi spotted ticking over at GDC last week

Whilst Fermi has done well to keep itself quite hidden from prying eyes right up until just weeks before launch, with the Game Developers Conference going on in San Francisco last week the card was caught on camera (certainly not to NVIDIA's delight) by a determined reporter who spotted it nestled in an unmanned system.

It's nothing we haven't seen before, only showing the back of the mighty GTX 480, but I figure it'll help keep your mouth salivating over the potential in store come launch in less than 2 weeks from now.

Feast your eyes on the piece of PCB that will be embraced left, right and centre come March 26 :-
