Raritan Computer Inc. Releases IP-based KVMs

By: Array

A name unfamilar to most, Raritan Computer Inc. (a leading provider of solutions for managing IT infrastructure equipment and the mission-critical applications and services that run on it) expanded upon their enterprise-class Dominion KX product line today with the release of the world's first IP-based KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) switch (X432) which is capable of supporting five concurrent users and up to 32 servers. Also on offer is a cut-down KVM-over-IP switch (KX416) supporting five concurrent users and 16 servers.

One awesome product indeed! - Full details in the official PR folks.

The new Dominion KX models - KX432 and KX416 - are ideal for situations where multiple IT specialists need simultaneous remote access to data center equipment. Using Raritan's proven and secure KVM-over-IP technology, the Dominion KX switches support up to five concurrent users - four of them via a Web browser and one via the local console port - for high-availability access to servers and other devices.

The breadth of the expanded Dominion KX product line - ranging from the KX116 (two concurrent users and 16 ports) to the KX432 (five concurrent users and 32 ports) - enables companies to deploy solutions that best match their IT environments. For example, installing one 32-port KVM switch, instead of several switches, to handle all the equipment in a densely-populated server rack not only simplifies server management, but also preserves rack space and reduces associated costs, such as HVAC and electricity. Dominion KX switches also protect IT investment because they can scale easily to meet the needs of expanding data centers and server farms.

QuakeCon 2004 - Hello from QuakeCon in Dallas, Texas

By: Array

Landed in Dallas, Texas from LAX about an hour ago and have checked into the very nice Gaylord Texan resort where QuakeCon 2004 is currently being held. Haven't had a chance to look around yet but it's said to be the largest hotel resort in Texas and I would believe that from what I have seen so far.

Haven't had a chance to take a look at the actual LAN yet as I'm running on very little sleep over the past day and a half (seeing the sun go up, then go to complete darkness and then go up again in the space of 12 hours is confusing to the body!), but I will soon and post some pictures up here and in the Photo Gallery as a pre-thing to our real coverage which I will have online either late Sunday or Monday morning US time. I might even look around in the BYOC area tomorrow and check out gamers case mods etc and post some coverage of that.

So far the Texans have given me a very warm welcome and I like the style of the place for my first visit to the United States. The picture of Bush when you first enter LAX was kind of different though I got to admit :)

Oh and hello to the helpful staff at the QuakeCon check-in point, they knew TweakTown so it was good to know we have a strong presence among gamers in Southwest USA.

More tomorrow!

Heading off to QuakeCon tomorrow

By: Array

I'm flying out to Dallas, Texas tomorrow from Australia for QuakeCon which is said to be one of the biggest gaming events in the world. We'll be there to cover all the hits and blows as they happen - both with video and still picture coverage.

I fly out early AM Australian Eastern Standard Time on the 12th of August and arrive at LAX around 7am on the same day. Jet lag is going to be very interesting especially since I'll be heading off to Dallas just a couple hours later from LA then it's time to check out the QuakeCon happenings.

Our buddies at nVidia have told us they will have a few surprises for us there and we'll be sure to report back with live coverage from the event as it happens from the Gaylord Texas Resort - stay tuned!

- More info at QuakeCon website: http://www.quakecon.org
