KIOXIA has just demonstrated the new EDSFF SSD form factor, a new next-gen SSD form factor for enterprise and datacenter SSD storage.

Enterprise and Datacenter SSD Form Factor, or EDSFF (and also known as E3 -- not to be confused with the gaming-focused E3 event) is designed to maximize system density, efficiency, and simplicity. KIOXIA itself is a member of the SNIA SFF-TA-1008 technical work group which is working on the new storage form factors.

EDSFF E3.Short (E3.S) and E3.Long (E3.L) solutions are the future of SSD storage for not just servers, but All Flash Arrays (AFAs) in cloud and enterprise datacenters.

Sabrent has been going from strength to strength in the storage market lately, unleashing the world's first 8TB SSD (our review here) and now the company has just released the world's first external 8TB SSD.

The new Sabrent Rocket XTRM-Q 8TB is powered by Thunderbolt 3 or any USB port, offering a huge 2700MB/sec (2.7GB/sec) reads on Thunderbolt 3 while older USB you're going to see up to 900MB/sec. The drive is available in 500GB, 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB capacities.

As for price, we're looking at $170, $220, $360, $830, and a huge $1600 for the 8TB flagship external SSD. The Sabrent Rocket XTRM-Q can detects between Thunderbolt 3 or USB automatically, with integrated temperature and health monitoring systems keeping tabs on your super-huge and super-fast external SSD.

TEAMGROUP has teamed with ASUS TUF Gaming Alliance in a few new storage products, with the new T-Force Cardea II TUF Gaming Alliance M.2 SSD and T-FORCE DELTA TUF Gaming Alliance RGB Gaming Solid State Drive(5V).

The new T-Force Cardea II TUF Gaming Alliance M.2 SSD is the "first M.2 SSD certified by ASUS TUF Gaming Alliance", where it has up to 3400MB/sec (3.4GB/sec) reads and up to 3000MB/sec (3GB/sec) writes. It's available in 512GB and 1TB capacities and is cooled by TEAMGROUP T-Force's patented "gaming cooling fin".

Next up is the T-Force Delta TUF Gaming Alliance RGB SSD 12V, which plugs into the 5V ADD header on your motherboard and has some seriously nice RGB lighting. It comes in 500GB and 1TB capacities on the 2.5-inch SATA 3 standard offering up to 560MB/sec reads and up to 510MB/sec writes.

Kingston Technology has announced that it has begun shipping a 7.68TB version of the Data Center 1000M NVMe PCIe SSD. The SSD is known as the DC1000M, and provides additional storage and implement strict QoS. By implementing strict QoS, Kingston can ensure predictable IO and low latency for data centers that are using the DC1000M.

Kingston is slotting the DC1000M into its line along with the recently released DC1000B NVMe boot drive. The new drive uses a hot-pluggable 2.5-inch form factor to allow integration with the latest generation servers and storage arrays currently using the PCIe and U.2 backplanes.

Kingston wrote, "The lightning-fast drive provides enterprise-grade features such as end-to-end data path protection, power-loss protection (PLP) and telemetry monitoring for increased data reliability." The SSD is backed by a five-year limited warranty and includes free technical support. The new SSD is optimized for mixed-use applications. It promises up to 3100 MB/s Read and 2600 MB/s write speeds. Steady-state 4K read/write speeds are 485,000/210,000 IOPS.

KIOXIA is ushering in the next generation of SAS technology, with the company being the first in the world to deliver a next-gen 24G SAS SSD to server and storage applications with its new PM6 Series of enterprise SAS SSDs.

The new PM6 series drives make up KIOXIA's 6th-generation SAS SSD family, with fresh new 24G SAS doubling the speeds of its predecessor. The company has also added in a slew of new features and enhancements that help the KIOXIA PM6 series to "reach new application performance levels".

KIOXIA has deployed its in-house 96-layer BiCS FLASH 3D TLC flash memory, which enables the PM6 Series to pump away at 4300MB/sec (4.3GB/sec) sequential reads performance. This is over 2x the level of its predecessor, with KIOXIA offering a huge 30.72TB capacity in 2.5-inch SAS SSD form -- the largest in the industry.

We've been graced with some truly ridiculously fast PCIe 4.0-based SSDs over the last year or so, but it looks like Samsung is ready to give us "the super performance of real PCIe 4.0 SSD".

Samsung is gearing up to launch its new 980 Pro SSD by the end of August 2020, where it will be their first consumer-focused PCIe 4.0 SSD. We can expect some truly insane speeds of up to 6500MB/sec reads, and 5000MB/sec writes which translates to 6.5GB/sec read and 5GB/sec writes -- just let that sink in.

The news is coming from @UniverseIce on Twitter, who tweeted "Samsung 980 Pro SSD will be released within two months, you will see the super performance of real PCIe 4.0 SSD". We did see Samsung show off its insane 980 Pro SSD at CES 2020 earlier this year with crazy speeds.

You might be salivating over our review on Sabrent's new champion Rocket Q NVMe 8TB SSD but if you can't afford $1500 on a new 8TB NVMe-based SSD... then maybe an 8TB 2.5-inch SSD will just have to do.

Amazon is now listing Samsung's QVO series SSD at up to 8TB, but the listing was quickly removed. There were two different varieties of Samsung's QVO series SSDs up for sale, with a 1TB and 8TB option -- but there will surely be 2TB and 4TB versions of the drive once they are officially on sale.

The pre-order price for the 1TB drive was $130 and is available starting June 30, while the much larger 8TB drive also costs a hell of a lot more at $900 -- and it will be available to purchase and install (literally) every single game you own on August 24.

Kingston has announced that it is now shipping a new version of its KC2500 2TB NVMe PCIe SSD that packs 2TB of storage in the small form factor SSD. The drive is aimed at desktop, workstation, and high-performance computing systems where performance is critical. Kingston uses a GEN 3.0 x 4 controller and 96-layer 3D TLC NAND.

Read/write speeds are up to 3500/2900 MB/s, and Kingston promises that the drive is durable. The new 2TB capacity slots into the range for the KC2500 NVMe PCIe SSD range that begins at 250GB. Kingston also supports end-to-end data protection using XTS-AES 256-bit hardware-based encryption.

The SSD also allows the use of independent software vendors with TCG Opal 2.0 security management solutions. That includes offerings from Symantec, McAfee, WinMagic, and others. The KC2500 also has integrated Microsoft eDrive support, which is a security storage specification for use with BitLocker. Kingston ships all capacities of the SSD with cloning software.

OWC is a company that specializes in hardware for Mac computers new and old. It has a new SSD that it says will "revitalize older Macs and PCs" with improved performance. The new SSD offering is available now and is the OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6G SSD. The drive is offered in capacities from 240GB up to 4TB.

All capacities are in a 2.5-inch form factor that should fit inside most desktop and laptop systems. OWC says that the SSD is ideal for audio, video, photography editing, and production for users who need sustained performance. The Mercury Extreme Pro 6G is promised to be up to 10x faster than what many drives deliver today.

According to OWC, some drives drop to 50 to 60 MB/s after their cache is exhausted. The SSD promises read speeds of 37 MB/s and write speeds of 98 MB/s for 6 Gb/s 4K random data. The SSD can sustain 34 MB/s read speeds and 79 MB/s writes with 3 Gb/s 4K random data. Sustained read speed is up to 559 MB/s with sustained writes at up to 527 MB/s.
