HP launches new printers including slick Envy 100 AIO

By: Array

HP has been offering printers, cameras, computers and all sorts of other gear for a long time now. Some of the best looking computers that the company offers are the Envy line of thin and portable machines. HP has now added printers to the Envy mark and the first is the Envy 100 e-All-in-One.

The printer is made to look as good as it performs. It looks more like a media server or set top box than a printer with no exposed paper or output trays. Those trays slide out like a CD ROM tray does on a computer to keep things looking neat. The printer runs the Android operating system and has a 3.45-inch touchscreen on the front. The printer uses two ink cartridges with one black and one for color printing.

WTO says no to EU duties on displays, printers, and set top boxes

By: Array

Way back in 1996 the WTO brokered a deal between 72 participating countries that eliminated duties on the import of products like computer displays, set-top boxes, and printers. The agreement was called the information technology agreement or ITA.

The EU has been charging duties on these products claiming that new features on printers and display move them into the consumer electronics market. The WTO has found that these duties were improperly levied against the products.

HP set to launch printers with email addresses

By: Array

The first time I heard that HP was looking to put webOS into printers I thought the feature would be of little value. The New York Times has a report today on a new feature in printers, some of which will likely use webOS, that is very interesting.

HP is set to launch a new line of printers this month for consumers, with business printers coming later, that have their own email addresses. A web-connected printer with its own email address opens a whole new world for users of portable devices like the iPhone and iPad.

WebOS headed to internet capable printers

By: Array

HP recently purchased Palm and got its hands on the only good thing Palm had left - WebOS. Most of us figured that WebOS would turn up on tablet computers and maybe HP smartphones, but the OS is also coming to some devices you might not have considered.

TweakTown image news/1/5/15324_4.jpg

One of the devices I didn't think about seeing WebOS on are printers. HP has said that WebOS will be coming to web-connected printers. The OS will be used on printers that let users do things like print tickets directly from Fandango or pictures from Snapfish.

I really don't see this sort of printer taking off. Most of us will be very close to our computers when we are using a printer and it is easier to find the information on your computer than on a printer's small screen.

Epson launches new 802.11n wireless printer for under $100

By: Array

Most notebook or netbook users have wireless networks in place so they don't have to connect to wires to get internet access. With a wireless network it makes sense that used won't want a printer that needs wires connected to the PC to work.

Epson has announced what it claims to be the first all in one printer with integrated 802.11n networking for under $100. The printer is a penny under $100 at $99.99 and has ink cartridges starting at $8.99 each.

Other features include a 1.5-inch LCD, memory card reader, copy, and scan functions. The printer can scan at 2400 dpi and can make multiple copies at once. Photo repair features are built-in as well.
