Mike Davis who is a principal research scientist in IOActive found that Belkin WeMo home automation modules have multiple vulnerabilities which could endanger homes of half million users.
According to the report, the vulnerabilities found in Belkin WeMo devices can potentially cause threats to users' house from anything as serious as opening doors to wasting electricity.
Hackers have exploited an 8 month old flaw in ASUS routers. This exploits allows the hacker to access the data stored in a storage drive that connected via the USB port of the router.
This vulnerability was found by a researcher called Kyle Lovett back in June of last year. Kyle also published an article on how this exploit works, followed by a temporary fix such as disabling FTP and AICLOUD. He pointed out in the article that more than 40,000 ASUS routers with USB port(s) for attaching storage drives are at potential risk.
A self replicating worm called "TheMoon" is taking advantage of an authentication vulnerability found in Linksys E-Series routers product line-up. This was discovered by SANS Institute's Internet Storm Center who immediately posted a warning when Linksys E1000 and E1200 were found to be scanning IP address ranges on ports 80 and 8080.
The worm infects Linksys E-Series routers as it exploits an authentication bypass vulnerability on the firmware. ISC explained that the worm would first connect to port 8080 and if its necessary, it uses /HNAP1/ URL. This would prompt an xml formatted list of the router and the firmware details. Once the worm learns the required information, it exploits the vulnerable script in the firmware which allows access to such routers without authentication credentials. The worm simply spreads itself and stifles the remaining bandwidth. The worm is a 2MB file and it has a list of about 670 networks from different countries.
Today, TRENDnet announced the launch of its latest Ethernet over powerline adapter series, the HomePlug AV2. The new Powerline 500 AV2 Adapter kit features two TPL-480E adapters capable of 500Mbp/s transfers and are said to offer double the real-world performance over the company's first generation powerline 500 adapters.
The HomePlug AV2 line is ready to go out of the box and features pre-encryption for enhanced data security. Each model features a a high-performance Gigabit Ethernet port, and a power saver mode that reduces electrical consumption by up to 80-percent when not in use. Each module featured a three-year limited warranty and can be found at major electronic retailers both online and in-store.
Networking hardware company Barracuda Networks recently launched its Barracuda NG Firewall F280, designed to provide full Ethernet support for offices and remote locations. The device promises 99.99 percent availability, scalability, and mobility enhancements while using the Barracuda Control Center to have an easier time configuring and troubleshooting.
"The new Barracuda NG Firewall F280 model provides the power next-generation firewall capabilities of our Barracuda NG Firewall, and has been designed to run at branch offices," said Klaus Gheri, Barracuda VP of Network Security, in a statement. "In combination with the Barracuda Control Center, administrators can centrally manage the devices - setting policies once and running them everywhere, making it a great solution for distributed organizations requiring next-generation firewall capabilities at smaller locations."
Barracuda sets itself apart from most rivals by providing free trials of its products to end-users, often times working with value-added resellers (VARs). Companies interested in Barracuda products, and work with a VAR or IT outsourcing firm, can push for better pricing when the free trial begins to winds down.

We were shown everything from new 802.11 ac cable gate ways to range extenders and even a travel router that is 802.11 ac compatible.
I particularly liked the wall plugged 802.11 ac Wi-Fi range extender. The on board arrows combined with Netgear's app, make this one of the easiest to use Wi-Fi range extenders ever made. The high performance version was cool as well, and I could see my self purchasing one in the coming weeks to extend my wifi. During any CES, internet is at a premium, and in my case, I was lucky to get 300k up over the hotel's Wi-Fi, which made uploading content difficult. With Netgear's new Trek travel router, we could have used the wired connection to share Wi-Fi with my colleagues.

CES 2014 - Broadcom has just unveiled its super-speed 5G Wi-Fi chips, which will be capable of tripling the typical bandwidth found in the average consumers' home.
Broadcom announced the new technology at CES 2014, where it will make it easier to stream video through routers, gateways, STBs, digital TVs, and much more in the home. The company is offering up two 5G Wi-Fi systems that will hopefully break through any walls in any home, with the chips capable of reducing interference when one person plays an online game, while another streams video content from one device to another.
The new Broadcom BCM43569 wireless networking chip will allow smart TVs to receive both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth signals, simultaneously. Better yet, the BCM43602 can offline processing from a CPU for Wi-Fi networking, with both chips offering support for beamforming, or taking advantage of noise to increase available bandwidth.
This morning Mellanox announced that it has released its Messaging Accelerator software's source code into the open source arena. Known as VMA, this software serves as a platform for message-based and streaming network socket applications. By open sourcing this software, Mellanox opens up a new avenue for app developers to work within the VMA community to customize their software to run on VMA.
"By opening VMA source code we enable our customers with the freedom to implement the acceleration product and more easily tailor it to their specific application needs," said Tom Thirer, director of product management at Mellanox Technologies. "We encourage our customers to use the free and open VMA source package and to contribute back to the community."
VMA Open Source is released under the GPLv2 licence as well as a commercial version. The entirety of the source code can be downloaded at the Google Code link below. Mellanox says that they will take an active role in the VMA Open Source community and will provide further enhancements that will better facilitate the development and deployment of the project.
Everyone knows that a Wi-Fi network connection is going to be slower than a modern day wired connection. Up until today that statement was considered to be true, but a new report is suggesting that Wi-Fi could be, on the order of magnitudes, faster than even a fiber connection.
A joint research team from Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics (IAF) and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT, have just release data from their recent experiments that show that Wi-Fi can be much faster than anyone had ever thought. Using very high-frequencies in the 237GHz range, the team was able to achieve a sustained transfer rate of 100Gbit/s.
That is 100 times faster than Google's Fiber Internet service. So fast that you could transfer an entire Blu-ray ISO in just 2 seconds. Unfortunately you should not expect to see this technology arrive in your home anytime soon as high frequencies such as the ones used in this experiment, do not pass through walls very good. They must rely on a line of sight between devices to even function at all.
