The new ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 HERO BTF motherboard has appeared at a French retailer for 799 euros, which works out to around $870 USD, featuring an Intel LGA 1700 socket, 20+1+2 phase power delivery, and powered by dual 8-pin EPS power connectors. You've got 4 x DIMMs that support up to 256GB of DDR5 memory through ASUS' latest BIOS updates. You'll get yourself a single PCIe 5.0 x16 slot, a PCIe 4.0 x4 slot, and 5 x M.2 slots (1 x Gen5 and 4 x Gen4) for super-fast SSD storage.

The big selling point of the ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 HERO BTF motherboard is that it supports a dedicated graphics card high-power connector that's capable of feeding a huge 600W of power into the graphics card. This gives you a sleek-looking system, but enough power delivery for even the most beast GPU you can buy.

MSI enables 256GB DDR5 memory support on its Intel 700, 600 series motherboards

Anthony Garreffa | Feb 13, 2024 5:04 PM CST

MSI has just enabled up to 256GB of DDR5 memory support on its fleet of Intel 700 and Intel 600 series motherboards, upping RAM limits to a huge 256GB.

MSI says that its latest BIOS is available now for Intel 700 and Intel 600 series motherboards, and one of the big points here that the company is making is that you don't need to disable anything to get the 256GB of RAM support enabled. Other motherboard makers require users to disable things like 4G, Resizable Bar, and Remapping... but MSI doesn't.

MSI's new BIOS doesn't need users to disable any of the above features, you just get that juicy 256GB of RAM support from a BIOS flash. Hardware leaker and insider "chi11eddog" shared a screenshot of MSI's higher-end Z790 Carbon MAX Wi-Fi motherboard with 256GB of DDR5-4800 memory installed, running alongside a flagship Intel Core i9-14900K processor.

ASRock's new BIOS update for Intel motherboards improves 14th Gen CPU performance by up to 10%

Kosta Andreadis | Feb 7, 2024 9:02 PM CST

ASRock has released a new BIOS for its range of Intel 600 and 700 Series motherboards, with the new BIOS set to "drastically improve CPU performance" on 14th Gen Non-K processors. According to ASRock, the Intel Core i7-14700 sees a performance increase of up to 10% in Cinebench R3 benchmark tests with the new update.

Suppose you wonder what's happening and where ASRock found this additional performance. In that case, it all comes down to Intel's latest microcode update - and ASRock is the first to implement it alongside additional optimizations across its wide range of Z790 motherboards.

The update improves performance for Intel's 14th Gen non-K CPUs, which feature lower TDPs of 65W compared to the unlocked K variants. In addition to the new microcode, the BIOS updates from ASRock include additional optimizations to boost CPU performance further.

It looks like ASUS is about to release some new PRO series motherboards based on the unannounced X690E chipset, which, to be clear, won't be a follow-up to the just-released WRX90 and TRX50 motherboards that ASUS announced for AMD's new Ryzen Threadripper 7000 and Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7000 series CPUs.

The new ASUS X690E-based motherboards appear in EEC listings as the PRO WS X690E SAGE SE and the PRO WS X690E SAGE SE WIFI, with the latter featuring Wi-Fi. The new X690E chipset hasn't been detailed yet, with no announcement or details from AMD whatsoever. We don't know what the differences between X670 and X690E will be just yet.

ASUS BTF ecosystem: motherboards, graphics cards, PC cases with hidden cables

Anthony Garreffa | Jan 9, 2024 12:06 AM CST

ASUS has just announced its new BTF ecosystem of gaming motherboards, graphics cards, and PC cases into its ROG and TUF Gaming family of products.

ASUS BTF ecosystem: motherboards, graphics cards, PC cases with hidden cables

ASUS has said that even before the rise of windowed side panels, ever-so-careful cable management was the "cornerstone of gaming PC building," and they're right. ASUS says it's no good to clog up your primary airflow pathway with a "rat's nest of loose cables" and that with so many builders putting their prized PC components -- GPUs, coolers, motherboards, RAM, and more -- cable management, "affects the aesthetics of your PC as much as its basic functionality".

The BTF ecosystem was born because "with all due respect to the cable combs, zip ties, and custom replacement kits of the world," ASUS would like to introduce its new ecosystem of BTF gaming motherboards, graphics cards, and PC cases to help you build the ultimate in an ultra-tidy PC.

MSI prepares new AMD and Intel motherboards with new ATX12VO standard

Anthony Garreffa | Dec 27, 2023 8:19 PM CST

MSI is currently cooking its new 2024 motherboards, with HardwareLuxx reporting the company has new 2024 motherboards ready for both AMD and Intel users with the new ATX12VO standard.

MSI prepares new AMD and Intel motherboards with new ATX12VO standard

The new ATX12VO standard started a few years ago and will replace the huge 24-pin power connector we've all been using for years now with a smaller, more compact 10-pin power connector. Not only is the new ATX12VO power connector smaller, but it also has benefits in 12V power delivery into motherboards.

MSI talked about its new 2024 motherboards with HardwareLuxx, the company talked up its new "Project Zero" motherboards, which have power and interface connectivity on the opposite side. They're sleek boards, and I wish more motherboard makers would do a similar thing on their boards.

AMD and Intel next-gen motherboards rumored to be arriving in Q3 2024

Wccftech spotted the chatter from the grapevine which is the Chinese board channel forums, a source of many hardware-related leaks, but one we should be fairly skeptical around.

We're told that AMD's 700 series motherboard should debut in the third quarter of next year, still using the AM5 chipset - as we know that Team Red has pledged to support AM5 until through 2025, and perhaps beyond that some way.
