Star Citizen breaks through $30 million of funding, will it stop? No

Star Citizen is simply unstoppable right now - with its original $500,000 goal on Kickstarter now ballooning out to an amazing $30 million+. At the time of writing, it had received $30,374,530 of funding from 311,504 Star Citizens.

The next stretch goal is $31 million, and at this rate, it should hit that goal within the next day or two. People are excited about this game, as the premise does sound truly amazing, but when will this funding explosion stop? At the rate it's going, it will hit $40 million by the end of year. I've backed it, and I'm enjoying my hangar right now, and boy does it look glorious at 7860x1440.

I'm going to be the first to say it: but if things don't stop with this funding, it will be the first non-AAA (as in, developed/funded by a huge company like EA, Activision, Microsoft or Sony) to reach $100 million - you heard it here at TweakTown first, folks!

Bugbear cancels its Next Car Game Kickstarter, unleashes demo instead

The developers of FlatOut did have a Kickstarter set up for their upcoming game, Next Car Game, but it looks like it has met a metal-crushing death. Not many gamers coughed up the funds to back the project, so Bugbear pulled the Kickstarter.

Bugbear will still continue Next Car Game through its Early Access program, going as far as offering a demo for early backers. Bugbear explained why it pulled the game from Kickstarter:

Although our Kickstarter campaign has attracted tremendous enthusiasm, during the last couple of weeks it's become obvious that we are not going to meet our goal. Because of this we have decided concentrate on our efforts on the pre-order campaign. As a thank-you to our faithful fans, we have decided to release a PLAYABLE technology sneak peek, and it's available RIGHT NOW to all our pre-order supporters. The sneak peek features a playground that we use internally to test various features various like car damage and environment destruction. The best thing about it is that you will get a chance to have fun and wreak havoc with an amazing 24 cars!

Double XP is on offer for Battlefield 4 for one week

EA and DICE are offering up some double XP for Battlefield 4, which begins on November 28 and goes for seven days through to December 5. If you're like me, you haven't clocked up that much time on the game yet, and this is the perfect opportunity to clock those experience points up.

DICE has explained: "To show our appreciation for your patience as we work through these issues, we are announcing that from November 28 through December 5, we will reward all players with Double XP for every multiplayer match they complete. We understand that the launch issues may have impacted your progression, and we want to do everything we can to help you get back the XP that you may have lost."

It looks like DICE is apologizing to BF4 players through this double XP period, even offering the M1911 pistol scope on the 5th of December, which was previously something you could only own as a DICE developer. DICE added: "You are the heart and soul of Battlefield. We thank you for your support in these early days of the launch, and will continue to show our appreciation as time goes on."

Ubisoft reiterates its commitment to PC

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, is one of the best-looking PC games on the market right now, with the developer coming out and saying that it is pledging its commitment to optimizing its games for PC.

We've just lived through the launches of both next-gen consoles, and now Sylvain Trottier, Associate Producer of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag has had some wise words on the Ubisoft Blog. Trottier talked about Ubisoft finishing up the R&D stages of Black Flag, where they began working on optimizing the PC version of the game first.

There are three reasons behind this: the first, is that every team member has a PC at their desk, most engineers are more experienced and familiar with the PC environment in the early stages of next-gen consoles, and finally, the PS4 and Xbox One are pretty much PCs with their x86-based architectures. He said: "It's not 100 percent linear, but at least it gives you an order of magnitude."

Valve's local game streaming feature will soon enter beta testing

According to the official In-Home Streaming group on Steam, a beta test of the feature is "coming soon". Gamers who are interested in testing out this new feature can join the group, which will put them into the pool of users Valve will choose in the near future.

Local game streaming might not sound like much, but it is a key part of SteamOS, as it streams games from your Steam-enabled PC. Valve wants PCs that are powerful enough to host game sessions, which is what this beta testing will most likely involve. There's currently no hardware requirements, but the Half-Life developer has said: "There is a huge variety in home hardware and network configurations, and we would like your help in learning about what works best."

One of the bigger factors of local game streaming, and its beta testing, will be networking performance. Wired Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) will obviously be the best way of doing things, but Wi-Fi networks are getting mighty impressive. You can be sure we'll be doing a bunch of testing on SteamOS over GbE and Wi-Fi when we get our hands on the OS.

We could see Gran Turismo 7 next year, under 'best-case scenario'

Gran Turismo 6 isn't even here yet, but there's already talk of Gran Turismo 7 - you weren't surprised, were you? - with Polyphony Digital teasing, but stating that they won't take forever.

TweakTown image news/3/4/34062_02_we_could_see_gran_turismo_7_next_year_under_best_case_scenario.jpg

GT creator, Kazunori Yamauchi told Top Gear: "We don't want to take too long on Gran Turismo 7. Best-case scenario? Next year. In GT6 we really had to tune the software 100 per cent to maximise the PS3's architecture, but of course the PS4's hardware is much better, so I think the overall quality of the game across the board will be boosted when you come to play it."

If we do indeed see GT7 released this close to GT6, I think we'll see it as a PS4 exclusive. If there was a game that would sell PS4 consoles, it would definitely be a next-gen Gran Turismo game. Our own Chris Ramseyer will be excited to hear this news, I can almost hear his wallet screaming now.

RumorTT: Telltale Games is working on a Game of Thrones game

Telltale Games' The Walking Dead has been quite popular, but now it is rumored that the developer is working on a game based around Game of Thrones. The news is coming from an IGN report that cites multiple unnamed sources.

TweakTown image news/3/4/34061_01_rumortt_telltale_games_is_working_on_a_game_of_thrones_game.jpg

We don't know if the rumored game would be based on George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire novels, or the huge hit on HBO. During a recent Reddit Q&A, Telltale Games' co-founder, Dan Connors, said that the developer is "working on a few licenses that definitely fall into our dream IP scenario and we can't wait to announce those."

RumorTT: Tomb Raider will hit next-gen consoles soon

The PS4 is on the market, and the Xbox One drops in barely 24 hours, but where is Crystal Dynamics' reboot of Tomb Raider? Well, Square Enix isn't telling us just yet, but a representative with the company told IGN that we will know more about it next month.

TweakTown image news/3/4/34036_05_rumortt_tomb_raider_will_hit_next_gen_consoles_soon.jpg

The rep said: "it's so hard to keep a secret these days. We appreciate all of the enthusiasm, however we don't have any details to share just yet. That said, we highly recommend you keep an eye on any major gaming events happening in early December." It will be interesting to see Tomb Raider on the next-gen consoles, since both of them are based on AMD designs, will we see TressFX hair?

Blizzard invites most active players for Reaper of Souls beta

Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls is inching closer to release, and the closer we get, Blizzard is actually opening up the beta program for the upcoming expansion.

TweakTown image news/3/4/34030_04_blizzard_invites_most_active_players_for_reaper_of_souls_beta.jpg

The developer is inviting "valued media contacts" and 3,000 of Diablo 3's most active players, at least those who have opted into the beta through Battle.net. Better yet, the beta invitation doesn't include an NDA, which means we should expect a bunch of press, videos, pictures and more on Reaper of souls. The beta will include the full game, minus the final boss battle, which is great for beta players.
