Routine will have you wetting your pants in both excitement, and fear - Oculus Rift support is included

Ok, so where the hell did this game come from? I've just watched the first in-game footage of Routine from Lunar Software and I'm really excited about it. It's a moon-based first-person shooter, and it looks incredible.

From the four-minute trailer, it looks like a beautiful hot mess of Half-Life 2 and System Shock 2 - two of my favorite games. It also has Oculus Rift support, which is at the top of my most-wanted gadget list. It looks freaky as hell, and I think with Oculus Rift on your head while playing this, it's going to be a truly incredible experience.

What did you think of that trailer? I'm actually impressed that something not even on my radar can come up, and blow me away like this. I wasn't even shown much, but this trailer makes me want to play the game, especially with Rift.

Minecraft for PC crashes through 11 million copies sold

Minecraft is an uber-successful game for Mojang, having now sold over 11 million units for the Windows PC and Mac platforms. The news comes directly from Minecraft's official website.

At the time of writing, Minecraft on the PC and Mac has been sold to 11,008,187 people, which is really just crazy. If you had told me 5 years ago that a game that looked, and played like this, would sell 11 million+ copies, I'd have laughed at you and continued to play COD4 (the last good COD). The website has a running counter, which continues updating as copies are sold.

Since typing the original number just a paragraph above, the game has sold 11,008,202 copies and is selling around 1 copy every couple of seconds. Kudos, Mojang!

DICE's video on Frostbite 3, the engine that powers Battlefield 4, will leave you with an itchy upgrade trigger finger

EA and DICE's Frostbite engine is something to marvel at, but their latest video is truly something else. The trailers and gameplay footage for the Frostbite 3-powered Battlefield 4 showed some of it off, but this goes into much more detail.

It looks incredible, doesn't it? I'm loving the weather and water effects, which create a much more realistic environment. Compared to other games out there, it feels like the world is actually 'alive', which is what next-gen games are feeling like to me so far. Frostbite 3 has me excited for the future of multi-GPU and multi-monitor setups.

Microsoft to port first-party game franchises to Android and iOS

Microsoft has a long history of only releasing its first-party games on Windows-based platforms. This is because the company likes to use their games to sell more Windows-based systems. It's a business model that made sense in the past but might not be profitable in today's world.

Today, Reuters is reporting that Microsoft has partnered with Japan's KLab to port its first-party titles to Android and iOS. The deal includes both PC and Xbox games and would start with a free-to-play variant of Age of Empires that is said to be launching before the end of the 2013 fiscal year. Porting existing games to Android and iOS usually equals big bucks as we've seen from other publishing houses in the past.

Valve hints that Steam could kick off its Summer Sale in just two days

Earlier this year, Valve announced a new rewards system that awards you virtual trading cards based on the games you play, with additional cards being obtained through trading with friends. That service is set to launch just two days from now on the 26th and the company has just teased that "an event we think everyone can be excited about," will also begin on the 26th.

TweakTown image news/3/1/31281_1_valve_hints_that_steam_could_kick_off_its_summer_sale_in_just_two_days.jpg

Chances are that this "event" will be the highly anticipated Steam Summer Sale, which begins every year around this time. In the event that you are new to PC gaming, the Steam Summer Sale is a week's long sale in which Steam puts top titles on sale for as much as 70% off with different games being added every day.

While almost everyone looks forward to the Summer Sale, I usually get pretty nervous when it arrives. Last year I bought a total of 13 games and spent roughly $100 total. Of those 13 games I think I have installed and played maybe 6, and with so many great titles out right now, I am sure I will buy many more this year.

Mind-controlled Pong becomes a reality, will be at the 2014 World Cup

Mind-controlled Pong is becoming a reality, with Patricia Hernandez testing out the game that involves tossing trucks telekinetically. A team of researchers have adapted the technology to popular game Pong, with the end goal in mind of being able to allow a paralyzed person to make the kickoff at the 2014 World Cup.

The work has been done by the Duke University, who unveiled it to a summer camp that would encourage high school students to look into careers in engineering and technology. A Duke Ph.D candidate, David Schwarz, developed the game and it involves "headgear with spider-like arms, each containing a saline-soaked, felt-padded electrode."

Calibration of the device obviously took some time to get it working with just your mind, but after a few attempts they were able to manipulate the paddle with their minds - very cool. Schwarz's lab is working on a way to get their technology capable of controlling an exoskeleten, which would see the paralyzed walking again, hopefully not like a Terminator.

Ellen Page isn't happy with Naughty Dog using her likeness in The Last Of Us

This is something that has been discussed for quite sometime, that The Last Of Us' character 'Ellie' looks scarily like the real-life actress Ellen Page. She even sounded like her, shared mannerisms, and delivered dialogue in a scary mimic of the actress in the game's first trailer.

TweakTown image news/3/1/31265_03_ellen_page_isn_t_happy_with_naughty_dog_using_her_likeness_in_the_last_of_us.jpg

Naughty Dog made some changes to Ellie's facial features, making her look a little less like Page. But now Ellen Page has taken to Reddit for an Ask Me Anything (AMA), where someone asked what she thought of the character Ellie in The Last Of Us:

This has almost certainly been made clear to you several times, but are you aware how much you look like Ellie from "The Last of Us," a video game which came out about a week ago. She even sounds like you. So much so that almost everyone assumed it was you playing the role.

Which leads me to my questions:

How did you like playing the role of a video game character when doing "Beyond: Two Souls?" Do you prefer live action?

Have you seen any footage of "The Last of Us" and would you have taken the role as Ellie if approached?

Sony to use Gamescom 2013 to unveil more PS4 games

Gamescom 2013 is just two months away, and it looks like Sony will be unveiling more games for their next-generation PlayStation 4 console at the gaming event being held in Cologne, Germany.

TweakTown image news/3/1/31267_04_sony_to_use_gamescom_2013_to_unveil_more_ps4_games.jpg

SCEE's Jim Ryan revealed the information during an interview, stating that Sony will be unveiling more PS4 games at Gamescom, as well as confirming that the PS4 will launch in Europe before Christmas 2013. He said:

There's a lot coming. I'm sure you heard from Shu [Yoshida] that he has 30 games in development. 20 of them are going to ship within the first year of the console's life, and of those 12 are new IP. There's a lot going on, we need to keep stuff back. We've got Gamescom for us Europeans-we need to have something to show at Gamescom, don't we?

Respawn's Titanfall won't include single player, says 'for us it made sense'

I've been waiting for what seems like years for Respawn Entertainment to unveil their game, which we saw at E3 as Titanfall. Respawn is a company made up of the ex-Infinity Ward guys, Vince Zampella and Jason West.

TweakTown image news/3/1/31244_07_respawn_s_titanfall_won_t_include_single_player_says_for_us_it_made_sense.jpg

We've found out some more information on their upcoming shooter, which won't be including a single player campaign. This means Titanfall is a multiplayer only title, but it also gives the developer the benefit of putting all power into the single side of the game instead of splitting up people into separate groups. Respawn head, Vince Zampella has said that he considers the studio a "small startup" with "60 some developers", stating it's better to focus their resources where they'll be better utilized.

Zampella adds:

We make these single-player missions that take up all the focus of the studio, that take a huge team six months to make, and players run through it in eight minutes. And how many people finish the single-player game? It's a small percentage. It's like, everyone plays through the first level, but 5% of people finish the game. Really, you split the team. They're two different games. They're balanced differently, they're scoped differently. But people spend hundreds of hours in the multiplayer experience versus 'as little time as possible rushing to the end' [in single-player]. So why do all the resources go there? To us it made sense to put it here. Now everybody sees all those resources, and multiplayer is better. For us it made sense.

Titanfall will be arriving on the Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC in early 2014.
