In attendance at CEATEC this month Sony is showing off a highly impressive 56-inch monitor dubbed the TRIMASTER SRM-L560.
What's particularly special about this beast is its resolution, four times that of 1080p; 3840x2160 to be exact.
Further to that, it's been said the LED backlit TV has a 176-degree viewing angle from all sides and is meant to be a color-accurate preview for video pros and others who need large screens.
This is also pretty funky :-
Users can also split up the display into four segments, each with full 1080p resolution, or else into two 2048x1080 halves for the sake of workflow. DVI, HDMI and VGA supply video inputs, but Sony is offering adapters for HD-SDI and SD-SDI more commonly found in the video editing world. Ethernet for remote control, as well as a USB port, are likewise built-in
Availability is said to be from November 1st, but you'll be forking out close to $7,700 in Japan for it if you want this baby in your lounge and there's no definite as to whether or not it'll make its way to the U.S.
There is nothing cooler than a glowing yellow pickle (except maybe when someone makes a sexually suggestive joke about it). Of course it is even better when someone uses it to show of how something else works.
MIT professor Vladimir Bulovic, used an innocent, yet soon to be heroic pickle to show us how Organic LEDs actually work. What happens is that they pass electrons through the organic matter to charge the substance. As positive and negative electrons collide they release photons in the form of light.
The demonstration is a very simplified showing of how this works (as the whole pickle is used to represent a single element in a normal OLED display but does show us how the principle works and what's more is pretty cool.

There is a new kid on the block in the realm of HD projectors. Their name? Vivitek; if you have not heard of them you are not alone. Until I read about them putting out a 1080P capable projector for $999 I did not know who they were either.
But considering the other offerings from companies like Optoma are in the range of $2500-3000 US dollars this is does stand a chance of being a rather large hit.
Vivitek only released their first projector last year and they are already looking to butt heads with the big boys. The new low-cost projector will feature a Texas Instrument S450 Chip complete with Dark Chip II. For that $999 you also get two HDMI ports, composite ports, S-Video, Component, and RS-232 and a 12 Volt trigger. Contrast is going to be 5000:1.
In all not too shabby for the price, I think the big guys might have something to be concerned about.
