The Amazing Spider-Man has gotten its first teaser trailer, with the director behind 500 Days of Summer, Marc Webb and The Social Network actor, Andrew Garfield taking the franchise in a different direction. The movie has had an enormous budget and is meant to be a tent-pole, huge 3D, action-packed movie, but the teaser (for me at least) just doesn't do it justice. The teaser shows that we get introduced to Peter's parents, get to see a cool Spiderman POV camera ride (which looks lame after the first few seconds, but in 3D might look pretty amazing).
So far, I'm not excited - but I can see it growing as we see more and more of it. Take a look and let me know what you think!
HDTV manufacturers are jumping over themselves trying to one-up each other, grabbing customers and giving them 3DTVs, bundling free glasses, cheap Blu-ray players, etc. Sony's new 3D Experience is expected to eclipse the rest by offering more content in the form of streaming on-demand sports highlights and select movie trailers to Bravia LCD TVs and eventually Blu-ray players and home theater systems.
The Experience launches with a meagre 30 clips in the US, Canada, France, Germany and the UK today. This will obviously grow and should include more movies, music, sports and documentary titles. As of yet, there's no word on whether full-length films will be on offer, but it's sure to come.
A new social media film project has been given the green light By collaborators Intel and Toshiba to kick off from July 25th onward in the form of multiple short episodes with a casting call already running from today through to the 20th of this month to identify a new character to be included in said film.
The film, "Inside", is centralised around Christina (played by Emmy Rossum) who is trapped in a room with only a Toshiba Satellite P775 series laptop and an untraceable internet connection. With no idea where she is located or what her fate might be, she uses the laptop to launch her social network, reaching out to friends, family and anyone else who can help her figure out where she's being kept and how to get out of there.
This is the first film of its type in that it helps engage its audience by enlisting them to be a part of the film through social media.
Nintendo 3DS users will be excited to know that several minutes of original 3D television content begins today in Japan. The free service which when translated to English means SpotPass TV is a collaboration between Nintendo and the Fiju TV network. After setting subscription options, the clips will be automatically downloaded to the 3DS.
The clips are from eight shows ranging from reality television to animal shows, there are plans from SpotPass TV to make more shows available. At launch the shows available for the 3DS include: Scheduled Animals' Calendar, an animal infotainment show; Suddenly, View Special Selected Tracks 3D, a train show; 3D Magic Classroom, which teaches magic tricks; Idling! 3D Sumo Place: a challenge format game show; Pop Daily: A short form drama that centers on trivia; Forest of 3D Sculptures, a tour of the Hakone Open Air Museum, Japan's first outdoor museum; and Enjoy! Sport, a sports show.
Acer is proud to announce their new slim and stylish Acer Revo RL100, a digital hub for the den or living room which connects to a flat-screen TV and includes a dual-mode wireless touchpad/keyboard for smooth navigation from the comfort of your couch, bed or bean bag. It also has the option of including Blu-ray.
Highlights from the Revo RL100 are actually quite surprising, it's the size of a game console and has the ability to lay flat or stand upright on a stand and connects to your TV via HDMI. It features the next-gen NVIDIA ION discrete graphics with support for 1080p/720p HD video playback as well as the ability for Web HD Flash acceleration. Sports an AMD Athlon II K325 processor at 1.3GHz, 750GB hard drive and 4GB of DDR3 RAM. Plenty of storage and power for a truly cinematic experience.
It's also enhanced with Dolby Home Theater V3 which allows the Acer Revo RL100 to provide and immersive, crystal-clear audio experience. Also, when Acer say it's thin - they really mean thing. The Revo RL100 measures up at just 1.0 x 11.81 x 7.09 inches! Look how thin it is! The RL100 will have an MSRP of $499.00 with the Blu-ray-equipped RL100 coming in at $569.99.
Computex Taipei 2011 - Computex may well be over for another year, but we still have some great coverage to get online for your viewing pleasure.
During her travels around the Computex halls, our mobile device editor Nicole Scott ran into a company showcasing a Google Android TV device. The device which looks like a standard media player runs a Samsung 1GHz processor which should enable good 1080p playback. It comes with a wireless and HDMI as well as an infrared remote control.
It goes go on sale for around $140 - $150 when it goes on sale later this year.
Computex Taipei 2011 - Apacer was showing its range of memory and SSDs, but one really cool thing we spotted was their AL830 HD media player.
The AL830 is by no means a new product, but what we saw at this year's Computex was a near finished design that adds modular storage to the device. An optional matching device can simply be attached by SATA like connectors. This shouldn't come as too much as a surprise since Apacer is primarily a storage outfit and added additional storage in this fashion makes perfect logical sense.
On the back of the media player to get a fair selection of connectors including YPbPr output, AV output, optical audio output, HDMI output, LAN, USB 2.0 input and of course AC power input.
The AL820 looks rather capable and we look forward to getting in a sample for review soon. I bet Anthony cannot wait to put it through its paces.
COMPUTEX Taipei 2011 - One of our final stops for the day was with Patriot Memory who had a full range of SSDs and memory on display as you would expect, but one of the big products that caught our eye was the upcoming PBO Alpine media player.
This media player uses Google Android 2.2 OS for its interface system and to be honest it was kinda interesting and exciting for once to see Android mentioned outside of a tablet device for once.
The PZBO Alpine looks to be a pretty standard media player, but with the advantage of running Android apps, so it should be quite interesting when it comes out. We were told it should go on sale late August or early September with an estimated street price of around $120.
