We did promise more news on the Assassin's Creed movie when it hits, and today that has happened. The movie has just received a massive injection of awesomeness in the form of Michael Fassbender in the leading role.
Fassbender has signed on not only for the leading role, but as a co-producer. Fassbender will star as Desmond Miles, who explores the lives of his assassin ancestors through the Animus machine, letting him experience the time periods of the Crusades, the Renaissance, and in the upcoming third outing of the game, the American Revolution.
Fassbender is known for his roles in X-Men: First Class as Magneto, and recently in Prometheus, and the Quentin Tarantino-directed Inglourious Basterds. There's no details on the rest of the cast, or a release date, but you shouldn't expect the movie for another 2-3 years at least.
Amazon and Microsoft have made the Amazon Instant Video streaming media application available to Gold-level Xbox Live subscribers. Right now, over 17,000 streaming videos are available right now, for free, on the Xbox 360.
The service on the Xbox 360 now gives Xbox users access to Amazon's 120,000-strong library of purchasable videos to watch on the console. Watch lists are manageable from either a web interface, or locally on the Xbox 360 itself.
Xbox Kinect technology is also compatible, which can be used to search and play videos, as well as the traditional controller interface. Purchases made from Amazon are instantly loaded onto a watch list for easy selection from the 360.
Amazon joins an ever-growing list of companies on the Xbox 360, such as Epix, CinemaNow, Crackle, Dailymotion, ESPN, Verizon FIOS, Netflix, Hulu Plus, HBO, MLB, and more.
Just over a month ago it was confirmed that That 70's Show and now front runner for 2 and a Half Men star, Ashton Kutcher, would be playing the role of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs in two biopics of Jobs' life.
TMZ have posted the pictures online showing off Kutcher as Jobs on the set of the tentatively-titled film 'Jobs: Get Inspired". Kutcher dons the black turtleneck and faded jeans, the signature Jobs' clothing.
Mark Holme, the films producer, spoke to Neowin about the casing of Kutcher and the theme of the film:
When Ashton read the script he was immediately attracted to the project. He is a Steve Jobs and Apple fan, and is technologically savvy, as well, so he recognized the historical importance of Steve Jobs and the potential of the project. He is very excited to have the role.
We have purposed for the movie to be an accurate and inspirational portrayal of his fascinating life and the huge impact he had on the world, so yes we expect his family and friends to appreciate it.
I saw The Avengers on the day of release here in South Australia, and I thought to myself half way through 'why am I smiling so much?' It was just that good. Unbelievably good. I kept my expectations of the movie low, and it just smashed them all away.
But, I wasn't the only one. Ben reviewed it for us, and loved it too. Everyone else that I know who has seen it has also loved it. But, how are the box office numbers? Well, it's an absolute smash hit. The Avengers has raked in $200.3 million for the opening weekend, which has set a new all-time opening weekend domestic box office record, by quite a large margin.
The last record holder before The Avengers was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. The Avengers is the fastest film to ever hit the $200 million mark, and has made a mind-blowing $650 million internationally in just 12 days. Now we have to start wondering what's the next movie that could topple The Avengers for raking in that much cash in an opening weekend. The Dark Knight Rises arrives in just under two months time, but I really think it'll have a hard time beating The Avengers.
What did you think of the movie? Did you love it? Did you hate it? I hope Joss Whedon comes back for the sequel!

The Expendables 2 debut trailer, Schwarzenegger, Stallone, Willis, Norris, and more in the same movie
The Expendables was an all-out 90s action star lover's wet dream, it featured a bunch of muscled-up, washed-up action stars, together again, kicking ass on the big screen. The Expendables 2 amps this up by putting more stars in it, for longer, and introducing more 90s old-school action.
The Expendables 2 features Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris, Liam Hemsworth, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, all in the same movie. Yes, I'm out of breath too from excitement.
The trailer doesn't show much, but the bit with Willis and Schwarzenegger in the hybrid, bitching, is hilarious. This movie has nothing to do with technology, but what tech fan doesn't want to see a movie like this? It's the opposite of movies like Transformers, and has some great 90s action stars. The Expendables 2 opens on August 17.
Here's some news on the lighter side: At a press screening over here in the USA, it would appear that a projectionist is a bigger foe to the Avengers than, say, the evil god Loki. The new film "The Avengers" is already out overseas and garnering rave reviews is gearing up to hit US theaters this Friday.
As a press screening for the new movie, a projectionist accidentally hit the delete button. One would think that some sort of safeguards would be in place but, alas, it appears that this movie file is just like any other file. No word has been given on exactly why it couldn't be recovered or why there was no backup.
This screw up resulted in all of the press having to wait in excess of 2 hours while a new copy was downloaded. The fact that they just download another copy is actually somewhat ironic with all of the piracy claims being thrown around accusing other people of doing the same. I realize that they pay to show the movie, but it still is quite ironic.
The plot of the movie, according to IMDB, is that "Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. brings together a team of super humans to form The Avengers to help save the Earth from Loki and his army." It's a movie that I can't wait to see. I just hope that the projectionist in my theater doesn't accidentally hit the delete button!
Peter Jackson is 'meh' toward the panning of his 48fps 'Hobbit' footage, will stick to 24fps for trailers
Ok, ok, 48fps wasn't well received by critics and users from Peter Jackson's 'Hobbit' footage, but that doesn't mean he's sitting in a room crying about it. Most viewers' issues with the footage was that it looked too realistic, or that it felt like it were shot on video.
On top of this, viewers' blamed the blemishes on actors and sets which were all-too-visible without the help of motion blur. Jackson has insisted that the footage lacked special effects and color correction, and that showing the 48fps trailer was too short to judge the increased frame rate.
Jackson has now stated there will be no 48fps trailer, boo. Jackson also adds that he is now "very aware of the strobing, the flicker and the artifacts" when he's watching regular 24fps cinema. This mirrors what I've said before, yes it's hard to go to higher fps, but once you've been there for a while and go back - the old 24fps viewing just feels really bad.
Goosebumps. The latest Dark Knight Rises trailer is here, and boy is it smashing. It features some completely never-before-seen footage from the movie, and we can now form what the movie will be about from that trailer, shown below:
The trailer really shows off some excellent scenes, and from what we've seen so far, the Dark Knight will well and truly Rise once more. The new trailer is much darker than the rest, showing Batman's darkest hour, and more is shown of Anne Hathaway's Catwoman, which is nice. Not a big personal fan of her, but I think she'll gel with the movie very well.
I'm more looking forward to seeing how Joseph Gordon-Levitt goes in the movie, I'm a huge fan of his and I'm excited to see how he slots into the movie. I hope he gets some generous screen time. You also have to remember: The Dark Knight Rises is only a few months from release! It's close now. With all of The Avengers hype, some can get lost in between these trailers.
