Intel's "black box" TV service will be called OnCue

We've been reporting on a rumored TV service from Intel for a couple months now, and today we finally found out what the service will be named. GigaOM has reported this morning that Intel's TV streaming service will be called OnCue, with the report being based on trademark filings around the globe and the hiring of an ad agency to prepare the official launch of the brand.

GigaOM also said that Intel plans to launch the TV service before the end of the year and that Intel plans to compete with traditional cable TV and satellite services by offering a live TV feed as well as a catch-up service that will allow users to watch missed shows a la carte. The service will also reportedly feature an on-demand service that will allow users to watch the latest new releases without having to rent them from services such as Netflix, Amazon, or RedBox. There's no word yet on what channels will be featured upon launch, but we're sure the offering will be substantial.

Netflix reportedly in talks for Arrested Development's fifth season

As a huge fan of Arrested Development, this is music to my ears (while I work at the Banana Stand). Bloomberg are reporting that Netflix and the production company behind Arrested Development, Imagine Entertainment, are negotiating for a fifth season of the cult TV show.

Reed Hastings, Netflix's CEO, said earlier in the year that it's not surprising that the company would bring the show back for a fifth season. Netflix have had great success by developing a new, unique and most of all, refreshing model for TV distribution. This is where they offer the entire season up front so that users can watch it at their own pace, or sit down and watch it in one setting.

Netflix's most popular show, something I finished watching last week and positively loved, House of Cards, was a huge hit for the company earning back their $100 million investment in just a few weeks time.

Splinter Cell boss wants the to see the Splinter Cell movie become as big as James Bond

James Bond is a huge franchise, we all know that, but just how big could the Splinter Cell franchise be when it makes a stealth move onto the silver screen? Well, according to Splinter Cell: Blacklist's Creative Director, Maxine Beland, she'd like it to be "as big as James Bond."

During an interview with GamesRadar, Beland said: "I really want Splinter Cell to have an amazing movie franchise and to be as big as James Bond. There are some great Bond movies, and they're obviously a big point of reference for us. At the same time, I'm so hungry for a good Splinter Cell movie. I know we're developing one now, and that people are responding to it."

We are to expect a Splinter Cell movie in the near future starring Tom Hardy of Inception and The Dark Knight Rises fame.

The 4K revolution (or is that resolution?) is upon us, with Sony now selling their 4K Ultra HD Media Player in the US. The media server will push out 4K content to Sony Ultra HD TVs and only Sony TVs, it will not work with any other brand of 4K TV unfortunately.

The latest Pacific Rim trailer is here and boy does it rock!

Guillermo del Toro's latest movie is nearly here folks, and before we all go and see Pacific Rim, you should check out the latest trailer which should have you buying pre-sale tickets.

Yeah, thought so. The last trailer before Pacific Rim hits theaters concentrates on the human side of things, showing off less of the actual fighting. But, it gets the idea that it's pretty much the end of the world, and this is their last chance. Get ready for some special effects porn like nothing else.

Terminator reboot coming in 2015, would be the first movie of a new trilogy

Paramount Pictures, Skydance Productions and Annapurna Pictures have just announced that they are rebooting the Terminator franchise, with 'Terminator' launching on June 26, 2015.

We thought it would be another movie in the Terminator world we know and love, rumored to be 'Terminator 5', but this is going to be a rebooted movie and the first in a stand-alone trilogy. At first, I thought this would be a mess, but I'm actually excited at the possibilities of this. A rebooted trilogy would give the movies a much better chance of succeeding.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is getting too old to play the Terminator, with a rebooted trilogy being a better way of getting a younger actor in and changing the story up a bit. It has worked well with Man of Steel, which told a different origin story and a very different way of having the movie play out (through flashbacks) so a new Terminator reboot could be a good thing.

FCC listing outs new Roku Streaming Stick remote with headphone audio jack

A newly discovered filing by Roku with the FCC reveals a new remote for the company's Streaming Stick. The new remote features an audio out jack for use with headphones at times when you do not wish for the TV's audio to disturb others.

With only two batteries for power, issues of battery longevity have arisen, but as Engadget reports in their testing of previous models, the batteries lasted for hours even with headphones plugged in. No word when the new model will be released or on any pricing or retail partners.

Korean trailer for 'The Terror Live' has been accused of copying Battlefield 3

The trailer to a South Korean movie is being accusing of ripping of Battlefield 3. The suspense movie 'The Terror Live' has a trailer that builds up like Battlefield 3, but those end credits will have you thinking "hey, wait a minute..." - so check out the trailer below. We've included Battlefield 3's trailer, too.

Once those title credits hit, it'll all become clear. What I got from this, is that I want to see the movie! Lotte Entertainment, the movie's distributor, told ThisIsGame: "The Terror Live has elements in which a terrorist act is being covered live, and this could be similar to video games. Thus, since the movie tried to convey same feeling you get from video games through sound, it may have ended up evoking a similar sensation."

Resident Evil 6 is coming, will be released in 2014 with Milla Jovovich returning once again

The Resident Evil movies have been a fun ride, where they have evolved out of the first one to somewhat of a crazy action movie. I don't know if the quality of the movies are slipping, but they're still making large sums of money for Sony's Screen Gems.

TweakTown image news/3/1/31387_04_resident_evil_6_is_coming_will_be_released_in_2014_with_milla_jovovich_returning_once_again.jpg

They've just confirmed a release date of September 12, 2014 for Resident Evil 6, which should start filming this fall. Milla Jovovich will return as Alice, and we should hear more about the movie in the near future - where we should hear the official title for the movie in the coming months.

Intel's so-called "cable killing" set-top box in alpha testing phase with employees

Intel is working very hard on a top-secret project that has the potential to greatly shake up the pay-TV market. Known as "Project Black Box," the set-top box and associated television service are poised to take advertisers by storm by paying as much as 75 percent more than traditional content providers.

TweakTown image news/3/1/31333_1_intel_s_so_called_cable_killing_set_top_box_in_alpha_testing_phase_with_employees.jpg

Intel is able to do this because the box is said to utilize a built-in camera that will collect data on viewers' habits. Yes, you read that correctly, Intel's set-top box will record everything you do in front of your TV, and then feed that information back to its advertisers to help better target you with ads.

CNET reported today that more than 2,000 Intel employees in the Northern California, Arizona, and Oregon areas are currently testing the new pay-TV service. It is unknown when the set-top box and service will launch, but Intel does say that there will be substantial changes made to the final version such as how users navigate the system and how content is served.

Now for my rant of the day: How anyone thinks that this is a good idea is far beyond me. The simple fact that Microsoft's Xbox One generated massive fallout because it was always listening to everything you do should raise many red flags for Intel. The idea of a little camera watching and recording everything I do and then feeding it back to advertisers is on an entirely new level of creepiness. However, given the fact that secretive data collected on persons is often referred to as "intel" within government entities, is only fitting that a company whose name is spelled the same build the device the records everything you do. On the other hand, I bet the NSA, CIA, and other PRISM affiliates love the idea of a little camera in every living room.
