AMD Ryzen 9 7950X CPU pricing leak: flagship Zen 4 costs $900

Canadian retailer PC-Canada lists the new AMD Ryzen 9 7950X, Ryzen 9 7900X, Ryzen 7 7700X, and Ryzen 5 7600X processors as all out of stock obviously, since AMD hasn't launched them just yet. We are probably looking at placeholder pricing for now, but we should expect pricing to be very close to these numbers on AMD's upcoming Zen 4 chips.

We are looking at around $892 for the flagship Ryzen 9 7950X, compared to the current-gen Zen 3-based Ryzen 9 5950X costing around $546 on Amazon right now (discounted by 33% from its original $799 list price). The second-fastest Zen 4-based CPU is the Ryzen 9 7900X which costs around $800. After that, we've got the Ryzen 7 7700X which is listed for around $480, while the Ryzen 5 7600X is listed for around $330.

GIGABYTE's leaked BIOS for their upcoming X670-based motherboards has been checked over, with overclockers and enthusiasts discovering data hidden in the firmware. The BIOS leak confirms that AMD EXPO technology (EXtended Profiles for Overclocking) is real, something previously rumored, but also confirms AMD's upcoming EXPO technology will have two main profiles: one for bandwidth, and another for low latency.

You'll be able to tweak the active memory timings for the 4 x DDR5 memory channels, while the maximum frequcny of AMD's Infinity Fabric is 3000MHz in the BIOS.

3500 x AMD Ryzen 7 6800U chips unboxed, ready for new gaming handheld

Anthony Garreffa | Aug 10, 2022 9:45 PM CDT

AMD's new Ryzen 7 6800U processors have been sent to AOKZEO, to be baked into their upcoming A1 handheld gaming console.

3500 x AMD Ryzen 7 6800U chips unboxed, ready for new gaming handheld

AOKZEO founder Chengzhi Zong has got hands-on with the first batch of CPUs from AMD, with 22 boxes in total and inside of each of the box is 5 trays with 32 x Ryzen 7 6800U processors for a grand total of 3520 processors. Remember, this is the first delivery... there will be many more to AOKZOE.

AMD's new Ryzen 7 6800U is a new mobile CPU that's designed for these exact devices: but still rocks a Zen 3+ powered CPU architecture with 8 cores and 16 threads. On the graphics side of things, we have an RDNA 2-based GPU with 12 Compute Units, which is a big upgrade over the Ryzen 4000 and Ryzen 5000 series chips that use Vega GPUs.

This is what AMD's next-gen Ryzen 9 'Zen 4' CPU retail box looks like

Anthony Garreffa | Aug 9, 2022 10:42 PM CDT

We are now getting an early look at the retail packaging for AMD's next-gen Ryzen 7000 series "Zen 4" processors, with VideoCardz getting the box shot from a source that was allegedly from an internal presentation at AMD.

This is what AMD's next-gen Ryzen 9 'Zen 4' CPU retail box looks like

The retail packaging you're seeing here is for the higher-end Ryzen 9 SKUs of the Zen 4-powered Ryzen 7000 series family of CPUs, so we should expect different -- hopefully not too different -- with the retail packaging for the AMD Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 5 SKUs.

But there was also a little more information from the leaker, who said that AMD will be pricing its new Ryzen 7000 series CPUs not far from the pricing on the current-gen Ryzen 5000 series CPUs. The higher-end Zen 4-powered Ryzen 9 7xx0 series CPUs will be more expensive than their Zen 3-powered Ryzen 5000 series counterparts, and that's to be expected given how much ass the highest-end Ryzen 7000 series CPUs will kick.

Intel Tejas Project: Pentium 5 CPU at 7GHz to 10GHz story explored

Anthony Garreffa | Aug 9, 2022 7:51 PM CDT

If you're old enough then you'll remember the GHz race of the day between Intel and AMD, the race towards 1000MHz (1GHz) was a huge deal... and then we went to dual-core CPUs, and the Pentium brand was left behind for entry-level CPUs in the last decade.

Intel Tejas Project: Pentium 5 CPU at 7GHz to 10GHz story explored

But man, did Intel have a huge plan for the Pentium CPU family with Project Tejas and Jayhawk, where after all of these years we're hearing about the next-gen Pentium 5 projects that were headed towards 7GHz. Intel kicked off Project Tejas in 2003, expected in 2004 and later pushed into 2005 after issues forced Intel to redesign the chip. Before the company could do that, the Tejas Project was shelved on May 7, 2004.

Intel Prescott CPUs could hit 5GHz+ but had huge power and temperature numbers, but Tejas was expected to clock higher than Prescott -- with Intel chasing the huge 10GHz CPU clocks within 10 years between 2000 and 2011 -- but it ended up not happening at all. AnandTech was the last to report on the Tejas processor, but now Fully Buffered has a new video after getting his hands-on Tejas and Jayhawk processors from John Culver of CPU Shack (eBay) for an "undisclosed amount" of money.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5000 series CPUs are now available to buy

AMD's new flagship Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5995WX is a 64-core, 128-thread monster CPU with clocks of up to 4.5GHz, 256MB of L3 cache, 128 lanes of PCIe 4.0, support for 8-channel DDR5, and a 280W TDP. Now that it's in the DIY market, you can buy it online or at your retailer of choice... and it also means reviews are out.

AMD has killed off the Ryzen Threadripper non-PRO series, where it is unifying the product line for consumers: meaning that all future Ryzen Threadripper CPUs will be using the same CPU socket, chipset, and "PRO" branding. The CPU itself doesn't have any "Ryzen" branding on it, but we know it's a Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5000 series CPU.

Intel Core i9-13900K at 5.8GHz: up to 54% faster than Ryzen 9 5950X

Anthony Garreffa | Aug 7, 2022 11:33 PM CDT

Intel's new flagship 13th Gen Core "Rocket Lake" CPU is in the news again, with a new Geekbench run seeing the new Rocket Lake flagship CPU boosting up to 5.8GHz, and smashing AMD's flagship Ryzen 9 5950X in the process.

Intel Core i9-13900K at 5.8GHz: up to 54% faster than Ryzen 9 5950X

The Core i9-13900K has a maximum frequency of 5520MHz according to the Geekbench results, but the CPU actually boosted up to 5790MHz at its peak, while sitting at around 5.7GHz for the most part. We don't know if this is automatic or manual overclocking, but we should see close to and over 6.0GHz with high-end AIO coolers and 6.0GHz+ under exotic cooling setups: think custom loop, LN2 cooling, and some much higher power numbers.

In the Geekbench 5 benchmark, the new Intel Core i9-13900K hits a huge 2314 points in the single-core run of Geekbench 5, and 26464 in multi-core.

Intel cutting corners, drops premium packaging on flagship Core CPUs

Anthony Garreffa | Aug 7, 2022 9:19 PM CDT

Intel is dropping the premium packaging of two of its high-end flagship Core i9 processors, the Core i9-12900K and Core i9-10980XE.

Intel cutting corners, drops premium packaging on flagship Core CPUs

The news is coming directly from Intel, with the company posting a Product Change Notification (PCN) for the Core i9-12900K and Core i9-10980XE processors. Starting from September 4, these two processors will not come in their fancy packaging, but rather a regular, same-sized box.

It's no surprise for the Cascade Lake-based Core i9-10980XE processor, but the Core i9-12900K is still being sold right now... while the "Raptor Lake" and the Core i9-13900K aren't too far away now. Hopefully, Intel keeps the fancy packaging for the higher-end Raptor Lake-based Core i9-13900K, and doesn't start cutting corners from here on out.
