Ion Twin Video camera is really cool

By: Array

Many people spend a lot of their time shooting video of sports and interviews and other stuff. Most cameras today can only record one side of an interview or sporting event. Ion has a new video camera that records what's in front of the camera and behind it at the same time.

The camera is positioned for professionals that video interviews or video blog, but it would be pretty cool for consumers too. I can see the thing being great for YouTube types that like to record themselves and friends doing tricks and other things on skateboards or bikes for example.

Anyone who watched America's Funniest Home Videos knows the video gold that results when someone takes a skateboard to the groin. With the Ion Twin Video, you can record the blow to the groin and you laughing at the guy who got hurt at the same time. The little camera has no price yet, but does record stereo sound as well.

Samsung unveils HZ35W and HZ30W cameras

By: Array

One of the things I missed when I went to my DSLR rather than a point and shoot was the huge zoom levels that were just built into my old camera. My DSLR can get high zoom levels, but you need to spend big bucks on a telephoto lens.

TweakTown image news/1/4/14029_4.jpg

If you want lots of zoom, the Samsung HZ35W and HZ30W cameras will meet your needs. Both of the cameras have a 15x optical zoom and 12MP sensor. Both cameras also have 24mm wide-angle capability.

The difference comes in other features. The HZ35W has GPS for geotagging and a 3-inch AMOLED screen. The HZ30W lacks the GPS capability and has a 3-inch TFT LCD screen. Both cams have dual image stabilization and much more.

Samsung unveils new interchangeable lens camera called NX10

By: Array

There are two main types of cameras on the market today with point-and-shoot cams being the cheaper and smaller type. The DSLR is much more expensive and complicated with its interchangeable lenses. There is also a much smaller category of cameras called micro four thirds cameras that have interchangeable lenses but lack the mirror of a DSLR making them more compact.

TweakTown image news/1/3/13864_1.jpg

Samsung has unveiled a new camera that is a bit different from the micro four thirds cams on the market with a slightly larger lens connector and a larger sensor called the NX10. The camera uses no mirrors and three lenses will be available for it including the kit lens, a zoom lens, and a pancake lens.

The camera has a 14.7MP sensor and a 3-inch AMOLED screen. It can record video at 720p resolution using H.264 compression. The ISO range is 100-3200 and a pop-up flash is built-in. Other features include HDMI out and lens shift optical image stabilization.

Tachyon XC Micro helmet cam debuts

By: Array

When I am not up to my ears in netbooks to review, I like to peruse YouTube looking for video of morons hurting themselves in embarrassing ways. I am particularly fond of the videos where someone gets their gonads smashed whilst showing off in one way or another. That's quality entertainment in my book. If you are the sort who likes to film yourself doing extreme sports or generally questionable behavior Tachyon has the camcorder for you.

TweakTown image news/1/3/13416_4.jpg

The thing is called the Tachyon XC Micro and it claims to be the world's smallest helmet camera. The thing has a wide-angle lens and can connect to a helmet, dashboard, or goggles for recording. The camera is water and shock resistant and weighs only 3.7 ounces.

It measures in at 3.8" x 1.4" x 1.8" and records at a resolution of 640 x 480. The pair of AAA batteries that powers the camera is good for four hours of continuous shooting. Video is stored to microSDHC cards up to 32GB in capacity. The little camcorder is available now until the end of the month for $99.99 and will ship mid-December.

IPEVO whips out pen-style webcam on articulating stand

By: Array

IPEVO has announced a new webcam called the P2V that has one feature you don't see that often on a webcam -- an articulating stand. The stand can pivot at three different locations allowing the user to adjust it to just right height.

The average webcam can only be as tall or short as your computer screen making getting a nice shot a task in adjusting your LCD. Other than the adjusting stand, the pen-style webcam also sports 2MP resolution and it connects to your computer via USB.

The cam is compatible with your favorite IM apps like Skype, iChat, Yahoo and more. The little gadget also has a macro mode that lets it focus on things as close as 2-inches from the lens. Autofocus is also featured and can be turned off if the user desires. The P2V is available now for $69.

Gulftown Smiles for the Camera

By: Array

Although the Intel 32nm, Six-Core Westmere is still a long way away, there have been a few new sightings of the coveted piece of silicon.

The latest is over at PCGames Hardware. Although it is hard to tell exactly what this is, as there are no markings visible on it. It is easy to tell that it is not a Bloomfield by the layout of the underside of the CPU.

Also absent from the sighting are any type of performance testing but we have a feeling that some form of benchmark will be coming out soon. The Gulftown CPU will be the nest evolution of the Nehalem Architecture and will add an extra two cores (4 threads) to the already formidable processing power found in the current Core i7 9xx CPUs.

AMD has plans to counter this with a desktop version of the Istanbul 6-core CPU later in 2010. Time (and testing) will see who have the better 6-core part next year. Until then we can only eagerly read the scribbling's of the luck few who have them already.
