Angry Birds Space rockets past 20 million downloads in the first week

Rovio has just announced that Angry Birds Space has rocketed past 20 million downloads across all platforms in the first week. The ratio between paid and free app downloads is still unknown, but Angry Birds Space remains at the top spot of the highest grossing list on the App Store.

Every version of Angry Birds has been more successful than its predecessor which rarely happens. Part of why it's so successful is because of its wide availability across so many platforms. Angry Birds is available on almost every platform known to man. One thing is for sure, if Rovio creates another series of games, Zynga is in for some trouble.

Temple Run finally available on Google Play

Everyone remember that game that everyone was talking about just a few months ago? Well, it's now available on Android's Google Play. Android users can now experience what it's like to be running through a forest, trying to escape from a temple. The game is simple, but ridiculously addictive at the same time.

"We are excited to finally share the Android release date with our fans who have been so enthusiastic and supportive of Temple Run," said Keith Shepherd, co-founder of Imangi Studios, the game's developer. "By expanding to more mobile devices, we hope to provide the same addictive and fast-paced gameplay to an entirely new group of players."

The game play is simple and intuitive. You can jump, slide, lean, and turn, and that's about the upper limit of controls. The game features and RPG-style upgrade system, where you spend coins you collect in game to upgrade the power ups and unlock new characters. The game will take about 26MB and is totally worth it. I highly recommend you go download it now!

Angry Birds Space replaces Draw Something as top grossing app

Rovio's wildly popular continuation of the Angry Birds franchise, Angry Birds Space, has taken over as the top grossing app in Apple's App Store. Early reports put it at over 10M downloads in the first 3 days. Angry Birds Space replaced OMGPOP's Draw Something, which has held the top spot for some time now. Both OMGPOP's Draw Something Free and paid version have a spot in the top grossing list.

Rovio has quite the money-making game series on their hands. This may explain why Zynga had approached them with a $2.25B offer prior to Zynga purchasing OMGPOP. OMGPOP must be excited that they held the top spot until after the deal with Zynga went through. Had they not, the offer might not have been so high.

Angry Birds Space IS coming to Windows Phone

Forget what Rovio was saying yesterday, Rovio CEO Mikael Hed has done a complete 180 and said that the company is working on porting it to the Microsoft platform. According to him, it is a "big undertaking to support" and that "you have to completely rewrite the application." A new power-up, called Space Eagles, is awarded for progressing throughout the game or can be bought via an in-app purchase.

The game has topping sales charts since it was released yesterday. Currently, the first 60 levels are playable, with more coming through updates. Hed said "We are working towards getting Angry Birds Space to WP7," which indeed confirms that it will be released for almost every mobile segment now available. No release date has been set for sure.

We saw Kevin Rose's Oink app come out recently which takes location based check-ins a step further by being able to rate things inside places you visit and everything in general. Reqvu also does more than the standard check-in using location services and allows you to request videos and pictures from friends at certain locations around the world.

You can announce to your friends where you are by checking-in and then in Action Mode you can say that you are ready to take videos and photos for them to see. I saw a beta preview of this several weeks ago and it looked great, I'm going to give the final version a try right now.
