NVIDIA Hopper GPU: bonkers 140 billion transistors on next-gen AI chip

NVIDIA is going to be one of, if not the biggest GPU ever made when it unleashes its next-gen Hopper GPU architecture -- with fresh rumors teasing it rocks a Godzilla-sized 140 billion transistors -- 2.6x the transistors of the Ampere-based GA100 GPU.

The new rumors are coming from Chiphell, which states one of the flagship NVIDIA Hopper GPUs will have a huge 140 billion transistors, and be made on TSMC 5nm. We might see a monster monolithic design in the GH100 -- but also a multi-chip module (MCM) design in the GH102 -- with 140 billion transistors somewhere in the 5nm mix.

NVIDIA's new Hopper GPU architecture whether it be in monolithic or MCM GPU design, will be going up against AMD's next-gen Aldebaran GPU -- a new MCM-based GPU with up to 128GB of HBM2e memory and on TSMC 6nm -- as well as Intel's upcoming Ponte Vecchio GPU (which will use an Intel 7 base GPU tile, TSMC N7 for Xe-Link, and TSMC N5 for the compute tile) with up to 128GB of HBM2e memory.

AMD RDNA 3 GPU: engineer confirms hybrid 5nm + 6nm nodes on Navi 3X

AMD's new RDNA 3-based GPU architecture is going to be unleashed later this year, with a new leak coming from an AMD employee who listed some new details on the Navi 3X GPUs coming in the next few years.

We haven't had confirmation on which process nodes that the new RDNA 3 chips will be made on, but the post by the AMD staffer (who is the Principal Member of Technical Staff - Infinity Data Fabric Silicon Design Team) posted some details about his projects in the pipeline that included Navi 31, Navi 32, and Navi 33.

Navi 31 would be on 5nm + 6nm, Navi 32 on 5nm + 6nm, and then Navi 33 on 6nm. The post also includes past and current projects that include Vega 10, Vega 11, Vega 12, Navi 10, Navi 12, Navi 14, Navi 21, Navi 22, and Navi 23 -- all made on 7nm. The AMD employee has also worked on the higher-end workstation-focused Vega 20, but then there's also the MI100, MI200, and MI300 (which will be on 6nm).

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti not just halted, but 'delayed indefinitely'

Yeah, it has happened... but how did it start? NVIDIA announced the new flagship GeForce RTX 3090 Ti graphics card back during its CES 2022 press conference and said that it would tell the world more later in the month. Well, that month was January 2022 and that month has passed, and is now in the rear view mirror.

I exclusively revealed back on January 14 that NVIDIA had ordered its AIB partners to "halt production" on the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, and then in the weeks after it became obvious the new monster GPU was nowhere to be seen. NVIDIA has been absolutely silent on the matter, not a single word about the RTX 3090 Ti in weeks -- only from me on January 14, and now Tom @ Moore's Law is Dead has said his sources told him that the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti has been "delayed indefinitely".

ASRock teases Radeon RX 6400 Challenger in Mini-ITX form factor

ASRock is about to unleash a monster... well, not-so-monster entry-level Navi 24-powered Radeon RX 6400 Challenger graphics card, but in Mini-ITX form.

ASRock teases Radeon RX 6400 Challenger in Mini-ITX form factor

The new ASRock Radeon RX 6400 Challenger Mini-ITX graphics card will be powered by the new Navi 24 GPU, which is made on the fresh new 6nm process node by TSMC, and will just 4GB of GDDR6 memory. The new AMD Radeon RX 6400 was never meant to see the light of day in the DIY market, but it looks like OEMs and system builders will be using the RX 6400.

We're hearing about the new Radeon RX 6400 through new listings with the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) and some new filings from ASRock. The new ASRock Radeon RX 6400 Challenger Mini-ITX will not require any PCIe power connectors, and will solely be powered by the motherboard. We'll know more details in the coming weeks, I guess.

NVIDIA has released its latest batch of GeForce drivers, with the introduction of the GeForce Game Ready 511.65 WHQL drivers offering Game Ready support for Dying Light 2 Stay Human.

NVIDIA explains its new drivers: "This new Game Ready Driver provides the best day-0 gaming experience for Dying Light 2 Stay Human, which utilizes NVIDIA DLSS to maximize performance and features several DirectX 12 Ultimate ray-traced effects. In addition, this new Game Ready Driver offers support for the latest new titles and updates including Sifu".

Not only that, but there's also built-in support for NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU, and GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Laptop GPU. These new gaming notebooks will be floating out into the market over the coming months, with the new GeForce Game Ready 511.65 WHQL drivers ready to go.

Yeah, so... NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX 3090 Ti is nowhere to be seen

Well, here we are boys and girls... we're in the month of February, which means NVIDIA has completely missed its launch window of January 2022 for its flagship GeForce RTX 3090 Ti graphics card. The reason for this article is because I noticed our friends at VideoCardz writing a new article titled "Did NVIDIA just forget to launch GeForce RTX 3090 Ti?" and yeah... of course they did, and TweakTown knows why.

If you remember, over two weeks ago now on January 14, I exclusively reported that NVIDIA had "halted production" on its new GeForce RTX 3090 Ti. After NVIDIA revealed the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti at CES 2022 and Jeff Fischer himself said to "tune in later this month for more details".

It's now past January, and we're into February and the only details you've gotten about NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX 3090 Ti firstly came from me here at TweakTown exclusively -- production on the RTX 3090 Ti has been halted -- secondly, EVGA teased its highly custom GeForce RTX 3090 Ti KINGPIN graphics card... aaaand that's it.

Intel plans to ship 'millions of Arc GPUs every year' from now

In what I think most people would consider expected at this point in order to win against GPU juggernaut NVIDIA and AMD which is kicking ass once again, but Intel is promising millions of Arc GPUs for years to come.

PC Gamer mentioned the "nightmare GPU crisis" that has destroyed the GPU market, and while both companies can do everything they can, they're limited by multiple other factors that are out of their control. TSMC manufacturers everything for AMD and has been filled with orders for years, while facing supply shortages, and then NVIDIA is tapping Samsung which is facing the same (and more) issues.

But once Intel stomps onto the GPU market, it's going to be an issue of supply -- but now Intel GPU boss Raja Koduri has himself said: "I am with you, PC Gamer. This is a huge issue for PC gamers and the industry at large. Intel Graphics is working hard to find a path towards the mission - getting millions of Arc GPUs into the hands of PC gamers every year".

MSI refreshes Radeon RX 6900 XT, RX 6800 XT: higher GPU clocks, more

MSI has made some tweaks to its custom Radeon RX 6900 XT and Radeon RX 6800 XT GAMING Z TRIO and GAMING PLUS TRIO graphics cards, which include some boosted GPU clock speeds.

The new MSI Radeon RX 6900 XT GAMING Z TRIO will be the fastest custom RDNA 2-based graphics card on the market when it drops, with the Navi 21 GPU boosting up to 2425MHz. This is 60MHz higher than the 2365MHz GPU clock on MSI's custom Radeon RX 6900 XT GAMING X TRIO.

MSI's other Radeon RX 6900 XT cards include the GAMING TRIO, GAMING X TRIO, and then the new GAMING TRIO PLUS and GAMING Z TRIO cards. As for GPU clocks, we're looking at 2250MHz for the GAMING TRIO, 2340MHz for the GAMING X TRIO, while the new GAMING TRIO PLUS hits 2365MHz and the new GAMING Z TRIO at the top with 2425MHz.

EVGA has just teased its monster new GeForce RTX 3090 Ti KINGPIN graphics card, with the company's in-house overclocked Vince "KINGPIN" Lucido teasing some photos of the card.

The new custom EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti KINGPIN graphics card features a dual-tone black/silver color scheme and a beautiful OLED panel (that flips up, by the way). EVGA is using a hybrid cooling design, with a huge fan that cools the pure copper heat sink that's joined by a 360mm AIO radiator.

There's a beautiful PCB shot that shows off the updated design that will power the EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti KINGPIN graphics card, with the beautiful gold traces and brand new power management system. EVGA uses a triple BIOS that users will get "Normal", "OC", and "LN2" profiles while PROBEBIT support is also included. This lets users analyze multiple GPU power metrics, all at the same time.

NVIDIA's next-gen GH100 Hopper GPU: 1000mm2 and monster 1000W+ power

NVIDIA's next-gen Hopper GPU architecture has been teased once again, with the flagship GH100 GPU reportedly going to be an absolute silicon monster that measures in at up to a huge 1000mm² die.

The news is coming from leaker "kopite7kimi" on Twitter, where kopite7kimi tweeted: "GH100 has a huge single die of slightly less than 1000mm²;" with a follow-up tweet adding "DO NOT overreact. We know the actual die size will be significantly smaller than the package size. But GH100>GA100 is confirmed".

Up until now, it was thought that NVIDIA's new GH100 Hopper GPU would be a multi-chip module (MCM) design, like AMD's upcoming RDNA 3-powered Radeon RX 7000 series GPUs -- but no, it seems Hopper GH100 will be a monster single-die design -- while GH102 will reportedly be an MCM design.
