MSI FX600MX notebook gets switching graphics and more

By: Array

MSI has pulled the wraps off a new notebook that uses tech to help extend the battery with dual GPUs inside. The tech is the same as what NVIDIA has been offering for a while with Optimus, but goes by MSIs own name in this iteration. MSI called the graphics switching tech GPU Boost technology. The tech allows the machine to change from a power sipping internal GPU to a discrete GPU for more power when needed.

The discrete GPU in this case is the NVIDIA GeForce 310M with 512MB of RAM. The notebook also has a special MSI exclusive anti-scratch, anti-smudge raised totem seal coating. I'm not sure what that means other than the thing has a raised embossed finish on the wrist rest and lid. The notebook also has Cinema Pro technology for the best graphics for movies and video content. The screen of the machine is a 15.6-inch LED backlit 720p resolution unit.

ZAGG invisibleSHIELD for 11 and 13-inch MacBook Air ships

By: Array

Once up on a time I bought a MacBook and used it for a few weeks before deciding, I was a Windows man through and through and selling the thing on eBay for more than I paid proving that some fan boys will pay anything to win an auction. I had the Zagg invisibleSHIELD film on that MacBook to keep it from getting all scratched up and I use the film on my iPhone as well.

The stuff is really cool because it's clear, you can't really even tell it's on the notebook or your smartphone if you do a good job with the install. The film is also tough, it's nearly impossible to cut the stuff, even purposefully with a knife. The film Zagg uses was designed to protect helicopter rotor blades for the military.

EKING S700 is the world's first E-notepad and it has a color screen

By: Array

Electronic paper screen are on the market in force with several different products being the same basic thing. We have ePaper and eInk for instance that are different flavors of the same tech that offers a black and white image on a screen that uses little power and lacks a backlight. These screens are very common today in devices like eReaders and you can find them on some watches even.

A company called EKING has unveiled a really cool new product called the S700 that claims to be the world's first E-notebook. The device is in a case that looks like a spiral notebook and inside that notebook is a 7-inch digital paper screen. The big difference between this digital paper screen and the ones on devices like the nook or Kindle is that the S700 has color. The screen also support two input methods with resistive touch and electromagnetic induction touch. That means the screen supports navigation with your finger and it recognizes handwriting from a stylus.

HP Envy 17 3D notebook now shipping direct from HP

By: Array

I think that 3D has been one of the most talked about (and perhaps over talked about) new technologies for the home theater and computer user this year. The thing that is so strange to me is that 3D on the computer is far from new. Gamers have had 3D drivers for years for gaming despite the huge influx of new 3D machines hitting the market this year. HP unveiled the cool Envy 17 3D notebook a while back and the machine is now shipping.

If you want to get your hands on the thin and powerful Envy 17 3D notebook prices start at $1599.99 and the machines are shipping right now directly from HP. The base configuration gets you a Core i7-720QM CPU, HD 5850 graphics, 6GB of RAM, 500GB of storage, and a 17.3-inch 1080p 3D display. The 3D machine also ships with HP's active shutter 3D glasses for enjoying those 3D effects.

New MacBook Air gets it's insides prodded

By: Array

As with other Apple devices of late, the new MacBook Air has been taken down a dark alley, bashed across the head and taken advantage of - but, in a good way.

TweakTown image news/1/7/17282_140.jpg

We knew this before, but with it being opened it's now confirmed - the new MacBook Air is next to impossible to do self-service on, as it uses mostly propriety components. The interior is secured using five-sided Torx T5 screws - where as the rest of the components are so customised that it would be near impossible to find them in a parts store.

Asus Eee 1015PW gets bright colors and nice hardware

By: Array

I'm not really the sort of geek to buy flashy colored computers or hardware. I prefer more of a stealth look for my gear. Some people like to have nice specs and some flash on the outside when it comes to buying a machine. Women often want a netbook that has lots of style and works well and Asus has a new netbook that comes in some colors that will appeal to the style conscious women out there shopping for a new netbook. I know my wife would like the colors of this new Eee netbook.

The new machine is called the Asus Eee 1015PW and the machine is a hardware clone of the existing Asus 1015PEM. That's not a bad thing at all considering as far as netbook hardware goes, the rigs are great on the inside. They have dual core Atom N550 processor, the LED backlit screen has 1024 x 600 resolution, and the battery is good for up to ten hours of use per charge. The netbook comes in some crazy colors with names like Purple Rain, Gold Dust, and Angel Skin.

Ergo tablet coming to Italy soon

By: Array

It's not uncommon for a notebook or other device to be unveiled by a large supplier that ends up being rebranded and sold by a bunch of different companies all around the world. Such is the case with the Pegatron tablet that has been sold as the WePad, Masterpad, and under other names so far. That same tablet is being rebranded and shipped over to Italy as the Ergo tablet.

TweakTown image news/1/7/17233_5.jpg

The Ergo will run Windows 7 and while most of the features are the same as its brethren under other names, the Ergo does have a few unique features. Ergo had Pegatron add a 2MP camera rather than the 1.3MP the other versions use. The Ergo also gets GPS, ambient light sensor, and 3G connectivity that are missing on some other versions.

Dell unveils new XPS laptops aimed at HP Envy line

By: Array

For many years before Dell bought Voodoo, its gaming line of computers was the XPS series. After the purchase of Voodoo PC, Dell migrated the XPS line of notebooks and desktops towards machines that were more focused on media than pure gaming. Dell has unveiled a few new notebooks for the XPS family this week that include some thin and well equipped machines that are aimed directly at the thin and sexy HP Envy line of notebooks.
