Dell's new XPS 13: permanent marker can be wiped off surface

CES 2018 - Dell has unveiled its new Dell XPS 13, with the new 2-in-1 refresh packing the latest 8th-gen Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processor options, arriving in both 1080p and 4K display options.

Dell's new XPS 13 laptop strips both USB 3.0 ports by switching to USB-C, packing three USB-C ports while getting rid of the normal sized SD card reader and replacing it with a not-so-useful microSD card reader.

There have been some tweaks to the carbon fiber material used on the refreshed XPS 13, with Dell making the white palm rest with a woven texture that looks "kind of cheap in person" according to The Verge. The material reportedly gets super dirty, and while Dell knows about this, the company says that it can be easily cleaned.

Keylogger found planted on over 460 HP laptops

Security researcher ZwClose has found that HP have pre-installed a keylogger into different models of their laptops, with over 460 different models affected.

This keylogger installed by HP allows for hackers to record every key stroke made on your laptops keyboard, essentially giving the open opportunity for passwords, credit card details and any personal account information to be stolen.

Courtesy of ZwClose we now know that the file is embedded in the SynTP.sys which is apart of the Synaptics touchpad driver which ships with standard HP notebook computers.

GIGABYTE reveal the AORUS X9 gaming laptop

GIGABYTE have introduced the world's thinnest 17.3" laptop, the AORUS X9. The X9 features a 7th generation Intel i7-7820HK overclockable processor, two GTX 1070s in SLI, up to 64GB DDR4-2400 memory and even a mechanical keyboard... oh, and RGB lighting of course!

The AORUS X9 doesn't stop there with innovation, also providing a world first for 17.3" laptop with quad cooling fans and multi-functional RGB lightbar & chassis RGB lighting. Other options include a choice of 17.3" 4K UHD IPS monitor or QHD (2560 x 1440) 120 Hz WVA panel. Audio wise, the X9 is able to offer ESS Sabre HiFi audio DAC and 'quad' audio setup that features two speakers and two woofers.

The X9 is definitely a thing of beauty, GIGABYTE even stating that "the X9 design philosophy screams with exotic properties, taking cues from modern supercars and stealth fighter jets". Two configurations are available later this month, one with 512GB SSD and 1TB costs $3,649 while the slightly more expensive 2x512GB SSDs will costs $3,799 and is available from Newegg only.

Microsoft has just made its next-gen Surface Book 2 official, with the new laptop coming in two different sizes: 13-inch, and 15-inch.

The flagship 15-inch Surface Book 2 rocks an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card, a 3240 x 2160 PixelSense display, Intel's new quad-core Core i7-8650U @ 4.2GHz 'max turbo' clocks, 16GB of RAM, 256GB/512GB/1TB of storage, with the GTX 1060 rocking 6GB of RAM. We're looking at a weight of 4.2 pounds, or 1.8 pounds in tablet mode, while the price starts @ $2499.

Microsoft's refreshed 13-inch Surface Book 2 rocks a 3000x2000 resolution, dual-core i5-7300U or quad-core i7-8650U @ 4.2GHz, 16GB of RAM and the same 256GB/512GB/1TB storage options. GPU wise we have a knocked down GTX 1060 with 2GB of RAM (the Core i5 model will use integrated graphics), while we have 3.62 pounds and 1.59 pounds in tablet mode, with a starting price of $1499.

Google Pixelbook: Surface competitor starts at $1199

Google has a media event on October 4 where we should see the next-gen Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 smartphones, but it seems like we might be getting a peak at their upcoming Chromebook Pixel successor, something teased now as Google Pixelbook.

Pixelbook is an official name, with Google seemingly adopting the Pixel branding in a big way, with a few different variants of Pixelbook to be made available. This is what we should expect:

Google's previous-gen Pixel laptops were just that... laptops, they didn't fold into a tablet like Pixelbook does. This allows Pixelbook to compete directly against Microsoft and their increasingly popular Surface and Surface Book line of products. Pulling Google into the same line as Microsoft, the new Pixelbook laptop has an optional Pixelbook Pen which is $99.

Xiaomi teases its new Mi Notebook Pro, glares at Apple

Qualcomm has come out trolling Apple the day before the new iPhone is announced, and so did Samsung with the announcement of their new 11nm and 7nm nodes coming in 2018. Chinese electronics giant Xiaomi has joined in on the iTrolling, with the announcement of their new Mi Notebook Pro.

Xiaomi's new Mi Notebook Pro rocks a 15.6-inch 1080p display with Corning's Gorilla Glass tech, with configurations available with up to the Intel Core i7-8550U processor, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and a 256GB PCIe-based SSD. Inside, we can expect NVIDIA's GeForce MX 150 graphics as standard, 2 x USB Type-C ports, 2 x USB 3.0 ports, a full-sized HDMI port, 3-in-1 SD card reader, and the courageous 3.5mm headphone jack.

Xiaomi also includes a large glass touchpad with a built-in fingerprint sensor, dual Harmon Infinity speakers, a full-size backlit keyboard with 1.5mm key travel, dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1 tech. Battery wise we have a 60kW battery that should be good for up to 9 hours of local video playback, but Xiaomi is providing quick charge technology that will provide 50% charge in just 35 minutes.
